Unfortunatly they must be hitting the slow time of the year by hubby's work. He was scheduled last night to work, well he got sent home :( And of course overtime tonight is not happening clearly when regular hours are not being given. Sadly hubby gets vacation time but we never seem to get to go on vacation rather we burn it for times like this as your DEBT COLLECTORS don't care if your work sent you home or not they want their money! It just urks me when he can't even get his scheduled hours.

That's a bummer. It's hard to never get to get away for awhile. On the bright side, he still has a job and that's something some people don't have right now.

Just a day trip helps. I hope you can find a way.

We've never gotten "away" we are lucky to do a day trip once a year. We don't have the funds to go anywhere. We just break even for the most part nowdays, so w/o our usual hours we are not breaking even let alone think about a vacation. The only thing I think about is asking if he's got vacation left to cover his shortage in hours :(

sorry to hear that things are slowing down on the job and that you will be using up the money for bills and staying home but a thought if you can try to take a weekend away if you can

We haven't gone anywhere in 8yrs for more than a day trip and with gas and such being what it is we never go anywhere. But I'm saying it's sad to have to use your vacation time as an insurance policy for when you are short hours rather than to be used as a "vacation".

It is such a pity your husbands work is slowing down at this time of the year. The cost of living seems high with bills and debt. It is a shame you will have to stay at home and not take a trip anywhere this year. It is a awful how the debt collectors treat you. I hope your situation will improve. Good luck.

Yes the cost of living and debts are killing us. We almost never take a trip anywhere, if we are lucky it's a day trip. Otherwise we go places locally like the museum or the alike... not a vacation but something to do really.

Well, he has a lot of company. Where I live, that's happening a lot. It's a shame that it has to be such a struggle to meet everyday expenses. I hope that he gets back to his regular hours soon.

Well I hope just for his regular hours it's the o/t that keeps us out of the red. However last week he didn't get his regular hours and certainly not the o/t. Things won't probably pick up for a few months. I hope by then I will get a few more hours and make up for some of the slack in income.

It happens a lot at my work but not in my department. I do housekeeping at a hospice and when we down to a certain patient count the nurses and cna's are getting cancelled and have to use a vacation day. I never get cancelled since there is always a wall to wash or a baseboard to clean. Some people are happy when they get cancelled others are not, I wouldn't mind having an extra day off in between.

hi snuggles, I know what you mean..vacation is one time that a lots of working people just can't wait for...Sometimes we can go away and sometimes we have to stay home and rest and there are times we have to spend our vacation working around the house. But I don't have a bit of problem with the debt collectors calling me anytime..not that I have that many anymore, but I alway say, "you can't get blood from a turnip"..

I have a friend from school who is always talking about her weekend get-a-ways coming up. It's kind of annoying when one is trying to keep food in the fridge and she's complaining about her shifts yet it's her job that enables her such luxuries KWIM?

That's too bad....hopefully things will pick up and he will get his hours.....and I would be nice if you could actually go on vacation once...even just a small one!

It gets frustrating when you cant get your regular scheduled hours because there isnt enough work. It makes budgets and living expenses very tight!

It really is sad when our vacation time does become the time that we are using to fill in for being short on our hours. However, this is kind of something that I've gotten used to in the last couple of years because my husband's place of employment only gives them 40 hours paid time off every year. Where he's been sick, he's ended up using most of his PTO to fill in for the days when he is sick. Hopefully that will not be something that will be the case for us this year.
