I don't know how this feature will work the mylot way but in other forums where I was a member. they have different varieties of blocking In a certain board where i was a member, the block feature gives you an ability to ban people who annoys you from your discussion, lets say someone here is bullying you or harasses you. In another board where I was a member, Block feature, will just hide the response of the person you don't want to talk with but other people can see that person's response. I still don't know what kind of blocking mylot will have but this feature, though many people s againts it, I will use it. No shame! I will use it.

i sure won't use it. i won't give it any credence. i say the block feature is for people who come to mylot, but can't stand the heat in the kitchen of discussions.

Most likely I will block the ones who posts none sense has nothing to do what the discussion type of people. You know the ones who wont read the topic and just post random things that has no relevance with the topic and they just want to add their post count. then there is a person who had been harassing me for 3 years. this person just tagged a discussion of mine as "repeat discussion" and "invalid limitations" when its not. Then this person had been accusing me of 'guideline violations' even if admins have no problem with that discussion.

Hello, MoonGypsy. The only good thing about this block feature is that you can block those who you dont like. The bad thing about this, is that myLot should weed out the "jerks" and send them an eviction notice. They will delete posts that are offensive, so why not suspend the person who made the comment for 24 hours and if done again, then one week and a third time is a month suspension, and the 4th time is "outa here!" That to me sounds like the more logical thing to do instead of allowing a person to be rude to others. I complained one time about the Yahoo Q&A and because some people were seriously rude, and I only got a "well, the system tries to get rid of these people who are disrespectful." And then you look and see that these people have posted numerous times, many rude comments, and they have been with the site for months or even a year. I dont know, Moon, but I hope people use it with responsibility. And I also hope that myLot uses my suggestion too.

it's not a good thing to be able to block people who you don't like. anyone could be a target for abuse. you will have to watch every little word you say and be on eggshells for fear of being blocked. i wonder how this will effect our earnings?

@ Moon... That is why I suggest the 4th time your out rule, but until then people need to be responsible with this "block" feature. Obviously myLot has decided to allow us to block people, so I am trying to be diplomatic and say "Be Responsible!" I am saying this to everyone on myLot, so it does not turn into another Yahoo Answers like Capt. has said. That is also what I have seen there at Yahoo. It is just a misuse of their system and you are correct that innocent people get banned for nothing. These things need to be fixed, but I think that the AI like seeing the drama...

To be honest I am keeping an 'open mind' and it's only when these new changes are installed and up and running that I will make a better judgement as to wether Mylot has changed for the better, or even for the worse. The positive thing I am seeing as they are working hard behind the scenes and like any change, it will please some and it will displease others, I guess it would be impossible to please every single Mylot member whatever they decide to do or add.

At the moment, NOBODY (except those working on the new interface) knows anything more about it except that it was mentioned in passing by a 'high-ranking employee of MyLot' as a way of controlling trolls and other such annoyances. No doubt, like any other feature, it will be open to abuse and, no doubt, that will also have occurred to the programmers and they can be expected to have put something in place to limit that abuse to a certain extent. We have been given no timescale or launch date for the new interface, so when it will come into effect is unanswerable. We only know that it is almost certain to be one of the new features (because it was actually mentioned by "MyLot"). Being negative about new features before one even knows the details of how they work is not a constructive attitude. From what I saw of the 'new look', it seems to be designed to be much more compatible with smart phones (which will please many) and to have a functionality which will feel more familiar to people who use Twitter and Facebook ... which is NOT the same thing as saying it will be anything like those two, though there is an obvious danger that many people may try to draw comparisons and may possibly try to use it in a similar way, possibly to their own detriment and that of MyLot as a whole. It will be up to those members who understand what MyLot is and what it is for to continue to educate and inform those who are new here and, as far as possible, to make clear the positive distinctions and differences between MyLot and other social networking sites.

Like Wolfie, I am trying hard to keep an open mind on this. I don't think any of us really knows what to expect. I do not like the idea of a "block" feature because I think it will just create more abuse than the neg. button did. I really think that all we need is the report button. I know that way back reporting was almost useless but I feel that Admin. has stepped up to the plate on that and become more pro-active in removing posts that are abusive and break guidelines. I am a bit apprehensive as to what the changes will bring. I love this place so I'm not just going to up and leave. I'm going to wait and see. I will say that I still am a bit perturbed with the breach of security. That alone almost sent me running. I'm trying to be understanding on that one although admittedly, i don't understand and feel the apology was pretty lame. We'll see. If my daughter comes at me like a pitbull because someone recognized her as a result of this breach, well, they will be hearing from me.
