when technology fails

I love writing so much that I had started writing my diaries since I was in elementary. In those I could always keep a record of what's happening in my life. I feel free without any worries. I do sometimes see how I grow mature everyday whenever I get back reading what have been written there. Up to this day on, I still find keeping journal writing a hobby and cure for stress and other disruptions i experience in life. I lost the journal that I have kept long ago. I put everything in one universal mass storage better known as USB but I don't know what happened because they were all erased and I could not retrieve them anymore. I feel like a part of me was missing. I thought all the while that saving them all in one storage is safer than keeping a hard copy which I was afraid could be accessible to anyone. But even technology failed me to keep all those memories safe from any harm.

Hi Nat ! So many brilliant in technology and some have an expertise on opening important files , that is one way of placing our files in danger.

Your habit is good for both writing and recalling your sorrow and happy in your life.According your problem, i think it is unfortune accident. the normaml USB storage has its own life circle. it is not fit into memory your life spaning the decades. the cloud storage is good choice. you submit your memory into the network storage.Nowadays, the cloud storage is added encryption. Therefore, one less thing is to worry about. Hope helping you.

i always admire those people who can keep diaries or journals. when i was in high school, we were taught and told to keep diaries or journals to improve our writing. little that we knew it would also improve our lives because of self-reflection of the past events. however, i find little time in writing diaries now. i do blogging though.

Yes, it can help us improve our lives as well because when go back to those accounts that you have written, you would realize how you have grown mature from painful experiences.

Back in High School, I have also kept a diary. I had been writing on it for 10 years. I still have it now and I do read them sometimes. It gives me a nostalgic feeling reading all that has happened with all the "FIRSTS" I had. And funny, too!

That is one thing i would greatly missed now because I lost my copy. i still have some of them but it would feel better if I can have everything back. It is nice to read them once again because it helps you bring back good memories and see how you were able to survive the toughest ones.

oh my... that would be too depressing for me. i do have a diary now which i write in a small notebookk. i was planning to write and save on my computer but i am thinking twice... besides i wanted to start it on the first day of the year. i guess what happened to you will now be a lesson. so are you still going to write and save it in your usb or just prefer to have a hard copy? i do hope that you will still continue to write.

It never stopped me from doing my passion. I still save it on the laptop, with usb and hard copy. At least if one gets lost I still have one or two more left.

i too had a habit of writing journals until one day my boy friend found it under my bed and read it. since he is the single and only relation i have ever had, i love him so much that most of the diary was about the days we were together and things i enjoyed and could never tell him were written in clear phrases. when he revealed it to me it was embarising i felt like an emotional idiot compared to my apparently practical patner i felt as though he had just got into my head. but my fellow found it quite interesting, cute and 'kowledgeable' or that is what he told me... :p so it is kind of good to maintain hard copies sometimes. coming to your problem, download a retriving software and keep trying. as far as i know whatever has been deleted can be got back but if it is over written it is difficult. so keep tying, good luck...!! :)

That's the problem when you are not really that tech-savvy. You panicked right away when something happens just like that. I just could not ask the help of anyone because it is a personal diary and i don't want anybody find whatever I had written there.

I am sure if you don't know how to use technology in a proper way, then it is not of very much usefulness to you, but will also create some trouble for you. In the world of technology, mankind invention sometime will fail outside your least expectation, nobody say that every technological device invented by men is fail-proof and should stay reliable forever. It is unfortunate that you have just experienced it and will have to live with part of you missing from now on.

I'm really sorry about your bad experience with technology. At the moment, I actually have two diaries: an electronic one I store on my laptop and a paper one I keep handy when computer isn't on. So, at least, I can't lose everything at once and I can write whenever I feel like it, without being dependant on one type of technology. I love writing in my diaries, it's enjoyable and therapeutic, and it's nice to know I'm saving my memories. Even though I rarely read my past entries, it's nice to know that I can go back to them.

I also used to keep a journal. But I would save it on my laptops memory and password protect it. I make sure that my laptop's in tiptop contusion and the anti virus updated so as to minimize the risk of it getting erased or corrupted.

Hi !Technology fails also like human being. I guess we need to have some back files so if something would happen , we will worry less. To important figures , dates and names , we should have a manual back in cases technology won't function. I am not storing my delicate issues in the computer , i believed restoring in Computer is so risky , so why take the risk when there are some other options we can do.

Yeah these days technology seems to be too over-rated. Like everywhere you look at there's always someone with a iphone 5 or something along the lines of that.

Don't rely too much on technology. The old analogue way of doing things shouldn't be lost. A physical cd or written diary will in fact outlast any type of file of extension you make think of. Everything is going to be different five or ten years from now, and most of the things we have will become incompatible with most of the newer technology coming. So my advice is: if you have something that is very dear or important to you, make sure you always have a real copy of it!
