Birds in our bird bath - We find these birds taking their turn to bathe here specially in summer

Summer has set in and the sweltering heat is unbearable. There is water shortage everywhere. We have a well that provides us with enough water. The birds too are running helter skelter for cooling themselves and what better place than the bird bath that we have installed in our garden where there is a never ending stream of visitors!! How is the weather treating you?

Somehow I had a feeling you were somewhere near Bangalore and if you are going to talk of the summer heat , then imagine all others in southern India and Andhra Pradesh. Mumbai is itself terrible and it is getting increasingly warmer.

Birds are a delight to watch and it is a blessing to wake up to the chirping of birds.

She is doing unto us what we are doing to her.If human beings have no empathy for nature and keep chopping off trees indiscriminately then She will naturally respond this way.God has provided enough for' man's need but not for his greed.'This is why it happens.

I really do not know what is in store for us from our dear mother nature. She is angry and has stopped being predictable. Since I have a lot of greenery I am saved from the scorching heat. Also I do not go out much. It is cool inside my house. I have this bird bath installed right in front where I normally sit and relax. Yes. It is a joy watching them. There are so many different species that come there and I have captured them all in my camera!

It's official- SUMMER IS HERE! And it is really getting hotter each day. I just went to fetch my son from school and I felt I have jogged for about an hour even if I was riding on a public transport. Even after getting out of the shower, you'd feel the heat right away.

I am almost a home bird and so I don't feel the heat. Because of the greenery around our house is pretty cool inside. But for those who have to be out, most of the time, life is pretty bad. The heat is dry and one feels thirsty all the time.

Can you not have plants in pots?

That is one reason why it is awfully hot in the house, as well. Coz I do not have plants around. Our whole place is completely cemented coz this compound used to be a parking lot of all the vehicles that my father in law used in his office.

The weather conditions turned unpredictable and surprising these days. Till last week we used to wear sweaters to protect us from cold. All of a sudden it turned too hot (I mean the season should not be this much hot). The spring festival is coming on March 27 but I think there is no room for spring season and we are moving directly to summer season from winter season. I read in newspaper two days ago the Earth becomes hotter. Water scarcity is in all over India and drinking water become costlier.

I was in Jabalpur, MP a few years ago and was having a ride on the river Narmada. The river is skirted by white rocks which are soft stone. They could melt and may result in sink holes. One never knows. That is the stuff Florida has. You must have read about it in that link. Imagine kala a gaping hole as deep as 60' - almost a bottomless pit!

You are right kala. The weather has changed. It rained here a couple of days ago making it still hotter. And when it rains there is thunder these days! Anything can happen. Did you read about the sink holes in Florida? One guy got swallowed by earth when his bedroom opened to a huge hole. He got dragged in too. http://edition.cnn.com/2013/03/03/us/florida-sinkhole

I wish the summer was here. We had a few snow flakes today. We had a couple feet a few weeks back. I would just be happy with spring getting here. I am so tired of it being freezing. Bird baths are awesome. I love seeing all the creatures. Squirrels drink out of ours too.

Summer has not started here, but it is getting hotter day by day; you are from India and you are aware that there are no more 6 season buy just three SUMMER RAIN and WINTER; the intermediate one's are gone; the weather changes so suddenly. I came home on 6th night, since then i am sick; guess it is due to weather. Water scarcity will be here soon. PS-Please read my private message and reply.

Summer started rather early in your country huh. Its getting hot here too but not as hot that we have water shortages. I'm not going out anymore because the sun is extremely hot but the inside of the house is just bad too because it gets hot like an oven at noon when the sun is high up. Anyway, I'm trying to stop global warming now. So I'm blasting my air condition so high so that the area in my house and around it would get cooler.

Well, spring is near, but we still have cold weather here in America. It's getting warmer though. This weekend I think it is supposed to get to 70 degrees. But it's so hard to believe that in some parts of the United States it is still snowing!

[em]wink[/em I am wondering if there is any relationship between the time you were born....and your favourite season??? This month, my birth...but also my "over the moon favourite" month! The time of year (in my location) that Mother Nature gives birth to the bounty that will embellish and grace our world for the next 6 months! Spring NEVER FAILS to marvel me...each year anew, I am just thrilled at the jewel tones of the spring flowers...how, how, how...such a miracle! Spring, to me, is the season of anticipation..of what bounty the time will bring! Summer is for languishing in the bountiful world...and FALL, is for dread, of the cold, and grey of the seasons ahead! Seldom, do we have oppressive heat, and I have a large forest at back..where one can always find tranquility, birds and a cool breeze...or just a short jaunt to the Ocean, which always has breezes! Locating a cool environment is simple, provided by Mother Nature...but finding warmth in the winter is a lot of work and planning! Give me Spring....wonderful Spring!

And this is the time you can revell in your well thought out planning of your gardens .. and surrounding landscape! You anticipated the retreat that you would need from the heat...and also, the needs of your beautiful gardens and Mother Nature's blessings (the birds) that SO love you for planning for them, too...with the birdbath, the trees for life, and shade. HUGE congrats, my friend...for your very unselfish deeds!

The setting that I have developed around is really nice. It provides the coolness specially in summer and watching those birds having a ball in the bird bath is worth every moment spent.

That's it perga. That anticipation makes you go through that phase which you call winter. It has been rightly called spring which gives you a spring in your step too! Since I do not go out much I am able to bear this heat and because of the greenery around me it is tolerable but there are telltale signs of fatigue. Normally the place where I live has no extremes. This is the first time that we are feeling the heat with such intensity.

WOW! so soon. So the summer treats will be seen everywhere then. I miss all the summer treats. Here it's spring already. Hopefully I would be seeing greener environment and more flowers will be blooming. Winter has brought dull sights. I only like winter if it's snowing, the rest is not. Anyways, welcome summer in the Philippines and welcome srping in China (northeast).

Where I live there is no snow or ice and snow somehow avoids me despite my efforts to visit those countries that have plenty of it. We have no worry about losing our greenery as most of perennial growths will be there in all their splendour.

Despite advances in technology even the Met. Dept is unable to predict weather conditions any more. We have to just wait and watch. I hope you will have pleasant surprises in store for you.

Hi there allknowing! It seems that summer has arrived in our place, too. The sun is always up and glowing; which is something I really do like. I have a lot of laundry to do; and it cuts my time to half in drying up all our dirty clothes. I've always loved summer!

If one is equipped to face the summer that could be the best part of any year with flowers blooming everywhere, birds chirping atleast here at my house as I have a bird bath for them. It is so refreshing to watch them in action.

Still winter here in Norway. Snow on the ground, clouds in the sky and quite chilly. I expect the summer will come in a couple of months. I'm not really looking forward to the snow melting either, since that means an icy ground.

Norway - the land of the midnight sun? We have read so much about your country. I always wanted to know how those hours are spent with the sun shining above you for so many hours. Do you sleep when the sun is awake? I have heard so much about snow. I have quite a few of my extended family and friends living in countries that boast of snow!
