Something a lot of Pinoy's don't know about Sabah and the Aquinos

Philippines

I was born in the 70's and grew up in the 80's. As far back as I can remember, the Philippine map that we had posted in our living room that would help us in our social studies or Philippine history and geography always included Sabah. And I do remember after the People Power Revolution of 1986, Sabah had been removed from our Philippine maps. I came across this article today and it shows that the Aquino's did promise to give up Sabah in exchange for political support. This is very sad, because as far back as I can remember, Ferdinand Marcos claimed Sabah as ours. Not a referral link: http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2013/03/13/918984/ninoy-vowed-drop-sabah-claim-get-kl-support-vs-marcos So I am not surprised that our now president, NoyNoy Aquino seems cold with the Sabah issue. Because he knows the agreement his parents made so that they could be in power. I am again disgusted with the way politics work here in our country. That they have no regard for the people as long as they get comfortable lives and stay in power.

It was Marcos who give up see the file of Ferdinand Marcos Speech on 1973. It is easy to manipulate but it is hard to accept the truth. Philippine Politics lost it values after 1971 Election and after the re-election Ferdinand Marcos. If Sabah was own by the Philippines did you ever remember a time that it was included in our election or in history from Garcia, Magsaysay, Macapagal,Marcos, Aquino, Ramos, Estrada, Macapagal and so forth. Was there a declaration of principles. There was a referendum held before on Sabah for the resident there to select of their Nationality and it was decided by them and they select Malaysia. Why those people in Sulu did not react on that referendum. On year 1717 it was allegedly awarded to Sultan of Sulu but it was not revealed and made known to Pilipino people. If on those years 1717 the Sultan and his family elected to live in Sabah and leave Sulu . What will happen to the Philippines if that Sultan will attack Sulu and will claimed the Island as their own on same date today. If they are really true to their claimed why they did not turn-over that Island to the Philippine Government and let our poor brothers muslim cultivate the Island, it is a rich in miniral Island. I am a historian and I know much more than your ancestors knew we want peace today at my age I have not seen clean Politics in the Philippines but those who benefited from corrupt Officials usually invent stories and create their own always remember we are still alive many of us.

What saddens me more is that with all this politicking, it's the people who suffer the most. Thank you for your response Teo.

This is A sure Logic, after all Sabah is owned by one Family and not the Philippines well in this case we(Philippines) do not have the right to claimed Sabah, but only the Sultanate of Sulu is that right?

This logic is wrong and a lie ! Marcos did not drop Sabah's claim. It is embedded in 1973 Constitution although not directly mentioned (“and all other territories belonging to the Philippines by historic right or legal title.”) This was drop on Cory's 1987 Constitution. From Ninoy to his wife and now to his son all sold us to the Malaysian, that is the plain truth they don't want us to see... Look up for an old Philippine map before EDSA REVOLUTION and you will clearly see that Sabah is indeed included in the map.

Is this the reason why the Sabah issue is being set aside in the country and we often see the conclave (not that its unimportant) but lives are being lost in the Sabah claim. i really hope that the government woulld give value to the life of our Filipino brothers in Sabah and that he sends support to pull them out of there or to help them with their battle.

When the news about Sabah came up, I wasn't surprised to see that our government response is cold with the issue. These politicians really have no regard for the lives of the people they are accountable for.

That's not right, =( so this is the reason why everything is just not right. it feels as though something was up indeed when Noynoy told them to surrender willingly.

It has happened before, I will not be surprised if our news will be flooded in the next few days about the new pope and the Sabah issue will dwindle away. The government is just waiting for a news tidbit that they can exaggerate in order to cover up their inaction on this issue.

That is really sad. I wish there would come a time wherein we would have a President that could really make a difference, for the better. I know Marcos made several mistakes in his reign but it is also a fact that he also had done a lot of great things for our country. Some old folks say that Philippines was number one in electronics before and Japan was even importing from us. Also in terms of defense, I've heard that Marcos has a plan for Corregidor and many others. It is really disgusting to look at our leaders. Even the candidates for the Senatorial positions are really far from promising. This is really the time to elect people base on their integrity, education and knowledge and not base on popularity.

After EDSA, so much of the plans were shelved. But if you look closely at all the infrastructure projects going on right now, it takes those who lived in the 70's and 80's to know that it has been planned even before. It's now like double whammy on Pinoys because during the 70's and 80's those projects were already loaned. And since it sat on the shelves for ten, fifteen years, we have to loan again in order to build these projects. Sad and shameful.

DOy Laurel and his original party of the opposition was supposed to be the one running the country while Cory would handle the ceremoney or publicity rites but Peping Coquangco did some manipulation allowing her to run the country with her own cronies called friends and families. too bad though, things didn't do well after that

Yes, definitely all the infrastructure projects implemented after the Edsa Revolution even C5 are all Marcos Plans. The sad part after Marcos left the country, C3 road project till now is not finish because of corruptions! Marcos has a very comprehensive plan and if only the Nuclear plant is not mothballed we should be enjoying a low rate of electricity unlike right now we have the highest electric rate in the world !

Hello Anne, sometimes i wonder if Erap should have won again since we don't celebrate EDSA II because it was done out of propaganda by Gloria Arroyo and her allies. indeed, he is very cold with the sabah issue, probably he wants to keep the promise of her parent's alliance with the malaysian government, which is very sad. i hope no one from their family will ever ran again because this is really sad

Well, we will see that in ten years, but the people are learning and hoped that it will never come to pass that bam would end up being the president in the future? that would be sad and embarrassing to the people unless he makes a mark of contribution on himself with out using his family name, which i highly doubt

So, that's the reason, If any one can asked for the support of any foreign country in exchange of a piece of Philippine Territory then what will happen to us, to our future, asking for the support of enemy to corrupt your own country, that is ridiculous.

I was born in late 70s too and was in school in the 80s. I did notice that after the people power, the Sabah claim all became hush hush. Not surprising. Lives already wasted in exchange for being cold about the Sabah issue. Tsk tsk. May God help the Philippines.

What can we do? Government can only pay attention to the issues it wants to tackle, as if the people don't get relief from the experience they are having day after day. It the same with other governments in other countries. But the only thing that really stinks is when they get credit for the issue as if they were the only one involved. One good reaosn to hate politics, even it affects the most of us. On your last statement-completely agree.
