How can people afford that

I phoned a few places about an oil change, I desperately need one for my car. There is two types basic and supreme (or some place it's something similar). Now I get basic, my sister gets supreme which is suppose to be better oil for your car. They wanted $75 - 95$ for supreme, and some places $30 - $60 for basic. If it's anything $20 or higher it's cheapier to pay my Dad to do it. I found 1 place that would do it for $20, so I will be booking an appointment with them. My sister get's supreme claiming it will be better for her car, and make it last longer. I asked my Dad, and he laughs said no it's just a money grab. My sister gets an oil change every month (whereas I get 1 every 4 - 6 months), and her car has had to have more work done on it, and burns oil faster (this is the higher quality for you according to my Dad). I actually drive further distances, and use my car more, yet less work, so I will stick with the cheapier lower quality oil.

Hi Ricki, I just don't know what type of oil change your sister is getting for 75-95 dollars..I agree with your dad that is a rip-off.. I have a camary and an oil change for me cost 35 dollars and if I pay the mechanic by cash instead of a check its only 30 dollars and its with good oil...

How dare you call my business tranaction "under the table secrets". Since you are really ignorant to the practice a lot of businesses do that and there us nothing under the table about it...these are ligimet business..I am offended that you are are calling my actions licentious or indecent in doing "under the table secrets"... Its freaking posted right on the sign...Gas prices are also different when you pay cash rathing than credit cards in places.. You need to watch what you say to people..Just because its not a practice where you live dosen't mean that there is snything immoral about the transaction...

We don`t have the under the table secrets. Many people would never do that for you, they want money. I go the cheapier route and it works better, seeing as my car has less work done on it. My sisters car is not resellable with the damage done with it, so putting good oil in it wont do any difference.

From what i know supreme quality oil always goes great with the engine, i am not sure how your sister spends more on her car with having supreme oil because that is not suppose to happen lol. Anyways, you might find low quality oil good for now, but it will keep damaging the engine along with the environment and in the long run your car will suffer.

We are usually not charged because hubby brings it to the guys who do all the work on our car.. they throw it in for free when we're getting other work done.

That's very rare now a days, I know my Dad would do it cheapier if I buy the things. The shops are ridiculous, but it comes back to labour cost. If I didn't have my Dad I would be pushing my car, I don't see any point in paying the riduclous costs.

How nice Kats! That is indeed a rare find. The shops used to do that ions ago, not only change the oil but check the car, fill the fluids, etc. for free if you are getting work done. I vaguely recall going to a gas station when I was younger and the guys would wash the windows, check the oil and other fluids while the gas was being pumped. Now you have to pump your own gas and pay through the nose for it.

Think that's pretty expensive for an oil change. Wonder what the difference in 'supreme' really is. I mean you change the oil, put on a new filter and then...what? We get ours done for about $35 and that's pretty resonable for not having the headache of doing it myself. My son-in-law would but he's too busy and so won't ask him.

My Dad will do it, for $20 if I buy the things. Usually in the winter months I pay a place to do it, because my Dad whines about his fingers getting cold. I think it's ridiculous the cost, $20 is the higest I will go. The guy on the phone said well it may be more if they see anything else wrong with the car. I said no it's $20, oil change that is all end of story.

I always try to get my car the basic oil change. I don't want or have the money to get the supreme oil change! I used to go to the Super Walmrt and have it done. It is propaly the cheapest play I know. The last few times I went to Walmart and we have two in the area, both told me I would have to an hour to get my car in! I could not believe it! There was no car or cars in the garage and only a like 2 or 3 cars in the parking area! I was not happy! I could ask what the heck was going on but I had the feeling they could of told me a bunch of bull! So now I go to a Mobile Express in the city. I am in and out! It costs a little more but at least I get in done right away and they don't tell me any fuching bullsht like Walmart has!

Every month? That's not necessary at all. That's just throwing money away. Talk about having more money than sense...

Oh, please tell me I'm not reading that right and your sister really isn't running her car with only 5% of the oil it's supposed to have in it. She's going to wreck that car's engine if she's driving it like that! I go 5,000 miles between my oil changes and my car barely loses anything between changes. If I was losing that much oil in such a short time, I'd have my gaskets and seals checked.

She goes right down, my Dad told me to get it done at 50%, but well I haven;t had time. But I notice a big difference in my car running now.

Her car goes through the oil that fast, there is a sensor in the car. It will actually malfunction the computer system if not. Mine goes down usually very fast in the winter compared to summer, my last oil change was in October, and I am needing one now (I am at 28% left). My sister got 1 done about a month ago and she is at 5% left.

I also think that the cost for the oil change is very high. I think most probably you should try for oil changes that are more affordable and look for place where they cost less. I wonder how people could afford it.

That reminds me, I need to get my oil changed. I have some leaks, so I've not been keeping up on the changes because the oil doesn't really get dirty. My place charges $26.00 for the oil change, and more for the filter. I can't remember how much more for the filter, but I've only had the filter changed once since I've had the car, and that has been about 2 years now. There is probably a place or 2 I could go to for the change and pay less, but I would burn up gas getting there because they are not very close to me. What a racket these guys have on us. Though they do have to pay their bills as well.

It pays to inquire from people you trust and those with experience. In fact you, yourself have had the experience in as far as when it comes to your car's need. One option is to check your car's owners manual. Happy driving.
