My hand is hurting really bad..

and I think it's from my mouse. I don't have a really good set up here with my desk. It's a small desk, one of those types with a drawer for the keyboard. But I'm smooshed between the TV and a bookshelf, so the drawer has no room to come out for typing. Instead I put the keyboard on top of the desk.. and the desk itself is crowded with junk, papers.. all sorts of stuff. My mouse doesn't have a ton of space.. so when I'm using it, my wrist is actually perched on the edge of the desk. I started noticing a couple days ago that my hand hurt pretty bad. Feels like it could be sprained or broken or something.. but it took me awhile to figure out what I could have done to it. I realized last night it was most likely the way I hold the mouse.. and because I've gotten addicted to a game which I played for hours over the weekend, using the mouse the entire time. That would explain it! I don't think it's carpel tunnel.. it doesn't feel like electro-shocks which I've heard is what you tend to feel with carpel tunnel. I think it's just sore from bad hand posture! I will rest it today while I finish reading my book and hopefully it will feel better soon. Have you ever hurt yourself from having bad posture?

I am planning to buy a new table and to set myself a working space. The table that I am using at present is higher than my chair so my arms are getting tired after several hours of working.

I have been sitting a lot lately at a computer working in the office. I have noticed some days that my hip hurts after a long day. I think it is because of the way I sit in the chair at the office. The computer is off to the side of the desk so that I can see the customer and have room for the paperwork and it forces me to sit at an angle while I am using it.

You should probably bring that to someone's attention as you could always claim workers' comp for such a thing and the company would end up shelling out tons of money for all the claims and possibly disability.

I know that I do similar with my laptop, using the computer too much and resting my arm wrong. I have a sore shoulder and back and wrist. It helps when I put on tennis wrist bands.

Yes...my shoulder. When I was using my desktop upstairs for some reason I was sitting at a slant and my shoulder started hurting! Strange but after about a week of ibuprofen every four hours and making sure I straightened up the pain went away. Good luck with your hand!

I've been trying harder not to rest my wrist on the edge of the desk hoping that helps.

Yes, it just sounds as if you have been overusing it and it is not getting enough support. I have been having back ache and it took me a while to realise it is because I use my laptop on my stomach whilst in bed propped up on pillows. I use it there as the ceiling fan is over my bed and it is very cool. sdo now I have decided to use it in the dining room which is airy and cool in the mornings but gets really hot by around 11.30 am. I am hoping that even this little change will improve my posture and stop the back aches

Yeah the stooping will do it. Hubby gets a headache everytime he's on his laptop because he is stooping to see it.

I have had health problems due to computer addiction from the shoulder to the elbow and now some big pains in my hand (specially near a bone up at my thumb). I know that the only way to end it is to stop using the computer for some time. There`s no game impoortant enough as to accept illness. But I am noone to say this: I`m addicted too

Boy do I currently know you feel. My right hand has been cramping up since last night. I played a lot of wii yesterday but I'm not sure if that is what it is from though because last week I played for like 2 days solid and it didn't hurt like this. But when i hold the controller it hurts a little so it could be I just was holding on tighter this time around because we were playing harder levels lol.

hik katsmeow my carpal tunnel started out just like that like a sprained wrist but its got so much worse and its a bear when I am really trying to be active here on mylot. It goes numb then needles and pins and then just plain throb and ache. I will have to see my doctor so am waiting for my social security check on the third,It seems to have started with how I hold my mouse but now its how I hold my arm. I can see a long groove in the skin on my right arm just above my wrist.I suppose typing seems to make it worse which is most annoying.i do hope your wrist gets much better as its just no fun hurting like this for either of us.

It is funny that you should say that about your hand. My wrist has been killing me off and on. I didn't really notice it until we had moved the computer to the desk it is on now. There really isn't any support for my arm or wrist when using this mouse so I have been thinking maybe it is the beginning of carpal tunnel or maybe I am just straining my wrist. I am kind of stuck with the computer were it is though.

It might be the strain cause by the way you have been holding the mouse in such small space. So why not use a bigger table wherein you can be able to rest your wrist while using the mouse, instead of having your wrist strain that way.

I think you should go to the doctor. RSI = Repetitive Strain Injuries is not only carpal tunnel syndrome. It can be another set of nerve in your hand. It is better to take rest a while and relax your hand. And you can do some exercise as you can found easily in the net.
