Why do you aim for honors/good grades?

Ever since I started school I have always been working on keeping my grades high even if my parents have assured me over and over again that they do not expect me to do impressive things for them to be proud of me. I have never truly understood why I aim to be an honor student... I just do. I think it just makes me happy and fulfilled. What about you?

Oh. I envy you. Ha ha ha What is your secret? I have never been a honor student, but I want to be a honor student. Still my grade is just an average, but I do not have failing grades. It depends on person I guess of what makes them happy and what makes them interest the most. I think if a student is a honor student, many companies will choose you. You would not apply in a company anymore. I know because I know someone who is a cumlaude at school. She received many phone calls from the company and wants her to be employee. I think that is a good advantage of being a honor student and having a high grades.

I aim for good grades so that way I can qualify for scholarships and try to get my college paid for free. In today's world it is virtually impossible to pay your way through college out of pocket when your tuition is around twenty thousand dollars for one year. That's why I've been trying to work as hard as possible at my grades so that way I can try to avoid debt while pursuing my education and dreams.

Me too. I didn't pass the screening exam before college because they picked only a few that really needed it but now I'm trying to apply again as an academic scholar because my grades passed the cut off.

I always did well in school because I wanted to prove to myself I could do it. When I was in college I would get upset if I got anything below a B because anything below a B means that I am not smart. I wish you all the best and keep up the great work.

I think that may also be one of the reasons why I try my best to be an honor student.Good grades was the one of the few things I could be proud of.

Of course getting a good grades has a lot of benefits when it comes to financial, usually they all become scholar with lower or free tuition fees, some also receives allowances from private sector and from government, they are also front-runner to get employed in the office of the government

It's nice to maintain and always keep your grades high because this can show your performance. On the other hand, having low grades does not necessarily mean that you're dumb. There are many possible factors why a student can get low grades such as the environment, family, and peers. I personally think that you can not measure one's intelligence through grades alone, well this helps but there are other things that need to be considered too. Congratulations to you and continue to be on top.

You're right that grades are not a measure of one's intelligence. I knew somebody in high school who was very intelligent but couldn't get good grades because he's lazy.

I feel the same way. I also feel sort of incomplete if I did not qualify for honors.

It would make me happy and fulfilled as well, that's why I shoot for the highest grades possible. I don't always make it, but I like having goals. Better than just having the goal is when you accomplish the goal through hard work. There's something to be proud of with that. Best of luck to you!

I think it's a self-pride thing, don't you? We want to get our money's worth, do good, feel proud of ourselves (and have others proud in us), but also - I feel like doing well in school increases your odds for things like getting scholarships and getting the better job once you have the degree. I like to set high standards for myself as well. This semester I'm in right now though is proving to be a difficult one!

Eversince I was young probably during 4th grade through Junior high and high school, I've always wanted to be in the G.A.T.E program (Gifted and Talented Education) but I was never able to even be in the G.A.T.E program and also honors classes during junior high or high school. I have also have aimed to be having good grades or get an honor roll. I wanted to get good grade or honors because it's an achievement and looks good on education records. I have always felt average student even if I got decent grades. Only sometimes or once in awhile I would get straight A's but mostly I either get All A's and one B or just mixed of A's and B's.

I am a very shy person especially when I was still studying, which is my biggest regret in life. Although I have good grades, I did not make it to the top. I felt that I have missed many opportunities in life because I did not give my best when I was still studying. I only learned later on that having an honor or being on the top have many advantages in me. First, they are the ones who are given most attention. They are the ones who are being trained to develop their skills and knowledge. They get to experience being taught one on one by school's experts if they have a competition to attend. Second, if you happen to graduate as valedictorian or salutotoria, I believe that some universities do offer them automatic discounts and scholarships. I only learned about that when I happen to stop schooling for a year after my graduation in highschool. I had to work and save so I can enroll the following year. Third, if you graduate in college as cumlaude, you do not have to take the civil service examination because you are automatically a civil servant eligible. I also heard that they also received offers from companies who want to hire them. I can think of many other reasons why someone would aim for good grades and honors. In my case, it is first and foremost for my family. Second, it is for my personal fulfillment. And of course, I know how hard it is to earn money that time so I do not want to have a failing grade and repeat a subject again.

For me, there are many reasons why we aim for higher grades. For many, it's because their parents want them to have good grades as pay back for their efforts in raising them well and to make them proud. for some, they want to gauge themselves as to where is their limit up to. and there are those that really wants to aim for higher grades because they believe that it is one factor that will lead them to success. ;) :)

when I as in High school I want a good and high grade as passport for the course that I want in college.. And when I am in college I want a good grade to be admitted in college of law ... My reasons of maintaining a good grade is not actually recognition.

I never find it difficult. And it was the kind of competition I enjoyed. It doesn't require just learning, it is a really complex system. You have to speculate a lot, to know when you can break some rules and when you can't. I think school would've been really boring without having some goal there. I mean, a concrete one. Also, if you don't look and behave like a geek, when you also have good relatioships with class mates and you are also present when it's about having fun, having good (the best) grades gives you an image of a genious. And it's a nice feeling. Even if, being smart enough, makes you realize that you are not a genious at all because of this.

Of course if you graduated with honors, it means you belong to the cream of the crop, and for that you have the reason to be proud. Not all students are bright and so not all do get recognition or medals after end of each school year so those who tops in the class have all the reasons to rejoice.

I mostly did it to live up to my parents' expectations. Especially since they were really achievement-oriented, and they weren't really nice to me if I "didn't chieve good enough results". Now I don't aim for that... I just aim for being good at what I actually like, and pass the exams, but I don't aspire to be the best of the class and stuff like that... that's not gonna count when I'm gonna start looking for proper jobs, just my diploma.

When you have good grades, you can be accepted to really good school for higher education. Education can be really expensive so good grades can also qualify you for scholarships. More importantly for me, I think good grades are the only gift that I can bring my parents, to show them that all their hard work and sacrifices are not in vain.

I think it is good if be honor student. But i think that the target to be a burden to the learning us, could have our target being a weapon behind the against us. If you already worked to keep values you, is good and must in increase. I think you have just learning process you to keep off without burden.
