The taggers are now famous here..................

Mexico
March 20, 2013 8:16am CST
I told everyone a few days back, about the tagging problem here in Mexico. Its real bad here. The gang asked me if they could do some art on my wall. I agreed after my son talked to them. Its the neatest thing. Im trying to get a photo posted here. Well now, word has got out in our neighborhood. And other owners have asked me to ask the gang, to do theirs as well. As it looks better than all those gang signs. So my son has scheduled a gang meeting for coffee and things here tomorrow at 8am. He will try and get them together to do something good in our town. Like they did here at my home.

So, how did the meeting go? Are they going to create new artwork for your wall, as well as your neighbors? I hope your brother is successful-maybe we'll hear something in the States, if your brother's plan works out.

It was ok, they are going to see monday if a few show up to paint a few stores. i think once people see how good a job they do. Many more businesses will want it as well. Only time will tell.

Maria...I believe what YOU and YOUR SON are doing is SUPERB! Wonderful!~ You are giving these Gang members...a leg up, a place in society, and I truly believe, once you have installed this pride in them..their Murals gracing many walls--they will make a supreme effort to protect them, like they are their own property. You/your son, are wonderful contributors to your community, by turning this around! Not that it makes any difference, but you commented on one of my posts, that you love the U.S., so just wondering if you knew that I am Canadian..LOL!

Thats the way to do it. Get those kids involved in something positive. Then they will feel needed and wanted. I am sure it will make them feel like members of the community after this meeting. Then maybe someone should talk to them about becoming artists and trying to make money with all that talent.

In my country, tagging is a huge problem, too. Oh, and they even carve their tagger signs into the windows of the buses and trams and trains, too. It's just awful. I mean, wall paintings can be erased, but window scars... gah. I do think proper graffiti art can look nice - done by talented people and fixed with the owners of the property. And in certain places of the city - I live in the capital, and some people tag in places where graffiti and tagging just don't seem good, like the posh part of the inner city.

There was some guy going around my area writing stuff like Sexy are you, or Are you still down, (maybe because the building there is lower, I think he watches people and makes comments. Duh! Yes talented people are more appreciated.

That's pretty cool that something that was seen in a negative light is now being looked at as more of an art form. Community effort to pull it all together is wonderful.

Yes, because most of them are just looking for a place to do this great art at.

I have a niece that studied art and her thing are graffitis. In my town there have been several groups of wall painters who used walls in a creative way to express their political opinions. Most of them were groups born during the time of dictator Pinochet.

Really, its funny here. They used to make my wall look so bad. But after they pained the murals no one had touched it. Still so pretty.

I like Art. He is fine fellow. When cities pay artists it is great for everyone. People can encourage this kind behavior in their neighborhood too sure. Some good does come out of it and you know many of the bad ones have artistic talent too, they just need to learn how to express it. You do good things Maria.

I hope you can get pictures, they are pretty bad at that here, but mainly its kids thinking they are cool for doing it. The put up special boards for them to spray paint as much and as often as they like and sometimes it looks really good. But we still seem to have people tagging stores and mail boxes.

Wouldn't it be nice if they got rewarded for their 'trade' or their reputation got into the local papers, taggers are always seen in a bad light and many see them as blatant vandals, but not in this instance, maybe the taggers should get some good publicity for a change, and who knows it might lead to something, if news gets out everyone will be wanting their services!

I agree, might help them give up their other bad habits as well. I sure hope so. Ive met like 6 of them. All seems like good guys.
