The polls opened at 7:00am but we could not open any machines in the room,,,There were three different districts in one place and none of the keys worked..Now this was on the morning where it had snowed most of the night and it was not that easy getting to the polls anyway...now this? it was like we hoped this was not the way the day was going to be...WELL needless to say at 9:00PM we were very happy,, Well I was elected to be Chairperson for the day for my district...and I was ok with that because Chairperson was getting an additional $40.00...great right...well let me tell you this...I got to the Village Hall at 10:00pm and did not leave that darn place until 12:30 AM..there were so many people dropping of bags and each bag had to be checked completely every I dotted and every t crossedbefore you were to leave. Oh boy was I so upset and so was everyone else that was there and had to wait..Some Chairperson had to call in inspectors(who had gone home) but did not sign every piece of paper.. It ended up being a very long day...Thats why I have not worked the local polls before and will have to think about it next go round two year ago... Look for my other post as to why they were so peticular about every I dotted and every t crossed..thats another story... to be continued....LOL

Looks indeed like a long day to me. Good thing though that its finally over and done with. Now you can relax and rest and probably catch up on some zzzzz's you might have lost during the preparation. I'm curious though, did they give you your pay after the elections like in my hometown, or prior to the actual polls?

Yes Mavic, even tho I knew it was going to be a long day and I' wasn't feeling the best I knew I could certainly use the money and with the weather being so bad I knew it wasn't going to be so busy and yes I earned $295.00 for my time and the task...

I saw your other post and so I really do understand. I do not think I responded to it, but maybe I did. It is a long day and although it may sound like good pay, when all is said and done you are not getting paid a lot. Relax now and let your body catch up.

Hi Gerty, thanks for responding..yes if was really hectic but like I mentioned in the previous response...its all over and I survived it..it was really good pay because it wasn't a busy day...we had over 700 people in my district and only 174 people showed up so it wasn't busy...Just a long day and then the extra time waiting to have my bag examined and my back was all ready hurting so bad...

hi bjc that does not sound like much fun. I never worked the polls and from the sounds of that I do not think I would want too either My husband worked them several years but it was pretty stable at that time.I remember him telling me all that went on and how everything had to be so meticulous. Sorry you had such a rough go of it.

I am sorry that you had such a long day and the weather being bad the night before did not help. I bet today was a day for you to catch up on your sleep. I hope that you get extra pay for all the trouble you went through. I am glad that you are getting paid for the work, but I hope they give you extra because of opening late. Was it a big voter turnout or was it slow day?

Hi thanks for responding, the day was just so extra long espeially after the polls closed...I thought it was going to be just drop off the bag as we normally do when working for the state elections.. Yes it was extremely slow....over 700 in my district and only 178 showed up..the other disrict in the same room had over 400 and they had only 72 show and then the third distric had over 850 and only about 200 showed up..but they were streaming in thorugh out the day so it really wasn't bad at all...
