On Becoming a Professional Writer

After nine writing gigs (one is still on-going) at Fiverr, I think I have the beginning of a professional writing career. Well, it's too early to tell just yet, but I'd like to find out by doing a series of really challenging writing jobs. I'm still somewhat disorganized when doing a writing job so I feel like I've expended more effort than necessary for job. This summer I'll organize myself so I can really write longer pieces in relatively shorter time. My goal--make $100 within a month. That should get me started. Make that much money two months in a row and I think I'm making headway to being a professional.

That is indeed something inspirational to me. I have always wanted to write some fiction (what do you write by the way). Apart from that I am also into content writing for the past 3 years. By the way, the target you set of $100 is from what source? If you don't mind can you share the sites you write for.

I'm planning on getting writing jobs at oDesk where the rates seemed higher than at Fiverr where obviously every job will only get you $4 (that is $5 less $1 fee).

that's a very nice goal. the biggest requirement would be time and inspiration. you get to be focused (and i hope you get to do it even with a day job). the biggest challenge for me to maintain focus is to get things done while having to work at a company 8 hours a day til Saturday.

Good for you! I have often envisioned myself to be a professional writer but with my offline job that takes up most of my time, I only get to do a little writing here in Mylot. Good luck on your endeavor and may you be able to get to your goal.

I also want to become a professional writer but I know I still lack a lot of things. My only experience was writing articles for SEO. I was able to write more than 50 articles but since those articles were meant for SEO, I must admit the quality weren't that superb. Since I was inclined in writing for SEO, I always have to create a lot of articles per day. So it was quantity not quality. As for now, I only do data entry works but I want to go back to writing again soon.

Congratulations on your desires, I hope you become what you wish to become. I believe that the internet is a gift to all the geeks of the world. It was begun by geeks and it is a place where people who are artists and writers can finally get their exposure. Years ago, if you loved to paint or write, you would have no chance but to sit and hope something would be published. Now anyone can be out there, the same with films. I really like this!

Good luck. :) I also dream becoming a professional writer, but I think I still have a long, long way to go. I'm just 16 so most opportunities are not yet open for me.
