Five years ago when my sister and my cousin were each getting married I spent a couple months gathering family favorite recipes and compiling them into a book. I made 11 of these books and gave them as wedding gifts, shower gifts and birthday gifts to the my sisters, 4 cousins, my mom and my grandma. I typed them all out, printed and cut them, then i bound them. I kept a copy of the recipe book for myself as well as the saved documents on my computer. This cookbook has become the most used and updated book in our family. My sisters now send me new favourites to add into the book for the 2nd printing. One sister recently emailed me and asked me to email her my copies or send her a new copy as she's used hers so often she can not read it anymore. I use mine all the time as well. Have you ever put alot of work into a gift and found out that it was appreciated alot and used often? What was it?

That sounds like a wonderful gift. I cannot think of anything I have done that has been loved and used so much.

We are actually making a second edition of this book this year because some of us have worn the spiral binding out and we have all added recipes to our books. I added the new recipes a couple weeks ago - I'm a digital hoarder and still had my original word files. This time my mom is uploading it to Blurb for printing and my sisters are contributing photos of items they've made since the original book was done!

I'm not really good at cooking, but we this 14 inch TV way back. My mom wanted to keep it since it's really simple to use. One day, it broke. I never had any idea how to fix it but I tried because I like my mom's enthusiasm with that TV. So, I got my dad's tools and opened the back of the TV. It turned out that there was a wire that's out of place, and it was somehow cut open so I fixed it. Then I placed the TV back and, to my surprise, it worked fine. I was proud of myself back then, and my mom really appreciated what I had done. Of course, my dad was mad at me for meddling with his stuff.

Wow! That gift really took a lot of effort. But it was worth it, as I read, and it was a really personal one. I love personal gifts, they are so more reaching my heart. I'm going to make a scrapbook for my boyfriend for our anniversary, btw. I'm just going to start. I know it's gonna be so much fun, but a lot of effort - but I don't care about that part, because I'm just going to make a little book from our memories, and that's going to be so cute and so moving...

It did take alot of effort. I'd love to update it soon for my family. My sister says she wants to make everything in it and take pictures to put with the recipes

Wow, that was such a personalized and really well thought gift! Would you mind if I will copy your idea, of course our recipes will be different but the idea will be the same. Only if you don't mind. I think the gift that I really worked hard to make with my own hands was a cross-stitched image of a mother and child which I framed and gifted to my aunt. It has been more than 10 years and the frame still decorates her bedroom. It took me 4 months to finish it. And I am so happy that she likes to look at it until now.

I don't mind at all! Thats awesome that she still has it hanging. I have a cross stitch a cousin made me for our 17th birthday and i still (14 years later) have it hanging in my house.
