We got free lunch as reward from our company

As the new product launched in the market, and all the hard work we contribute, that including our department, and other departments too, we got free lunch yesterday. I thought that we can order something special, and we have our own selection to pick, like Chinese; Mexican; or Pizza. The final pick is Pizza, and guess what, all other department got rewarded also ordered pizza too. So, that was get together thing, we all 3 departments sitting together, and having a big pizza lunch. At the end, I would rather the company give us something financially related, like a gift card to shop, or a reward paycheck. Anyway, we just can't expect too much nowadays, since the economy is not fully recovered yet.

I think it's a nice gift. Well, in my country, most companies can't even afford to give gifts to their hard-working employees... sometimes employees don't even get their salaries on time :(.

In todaay's economy most companies wou;ldn't do that. They are as many say cheap, as they don't have that money. They may have gotten a discount with the cost of the pizza. But congrats and you all earned it, and a big pat in the back.

Providing a free lunch really is a lot cheaper than having to send out gift cards or bonus cheques for each employee. Don't worry! Maybe if this new product becomes really successful, then there would be an incentive to be given to all of you.

At least you get something than none. Anyways, the showing of the appreciation from the company to you, hardworking guys, is the main thing about it. Although, the reward is not big, the appreciation surely is sincere and true. I know a lot of companies not even giving out such kind of treats even they are skyrocketing up because of their hardworking guys. And their reason being is that those hardworking guys are paid for it to do so, so the reward is already part of their pay. Really nasty. So it is better of in your company than some other under appreciative ones.

I guess it's better than nothing, huh? Too bad it is only a one-time deal, wouldn't it be nice if it will be a week-long free pizza lunch? But I know that is already stretching too far.
