I played basketball this morning with my friends since it is been a while since we saw each other. What I notice is that I become easily tired. I haven't played basketball since July of 2012 but I have my regular jog and run every other day. Can any of you give me some tips to increase my lungs' endurance? Thank you in advance.

What time you usually go to bed and what time do you wake up? I have read that it is best for us to wake up before five in the morning and practice breathing exercise during those times. It is good for our lungs. On the other hand, we should be sleeping before ten in the evening to give time to our vital organs, such as our lungs, to recharge.

Thank you for your tip! Now that you mentioned it, I go to bed pretty late, and woke up too early. I think I don't have enough sleep. :)

You might have felt shortness of breath because you lack being that activity for the past year. You should have done some warm up exercises prior to playing. Also, try to avoid eating too much and of course, if you are a smoker, then it would be better to quit.

Yeah maybe it has something to do with my diet. Now to think of it, my diet is unhealthy haha. I am not a smoker so I think that is the reason. Thank you for answering!

What about have a check-up? And take it easy right at the beginning and just slowly do the progress so that your body will get used to having exercise again.

Hello there, I also play basketball but the last time I have played competitive basketball was way back in high school, that was 5 years ago. Presently, I rarely basketball anymore but whenever my brother visits from vacation which is once a year, we play half-court one-on-one games. Since he's younger and plays basketball often, he really beats me in the stamina department, however me, being older and more experienced in the game and somehow more skilled due to experience as well, I can play with him as long as it's not a whole day event lolz. Since you said, you regularly jog and run, I think since it's been quite a long time since the last time you played bastketball, I think you just need some practice. Since the intensity of playing a basketball game is different from simply jogging or running. Get hydrated by drinking sufficient water, eat fruits and vegetables, sleep well and train properly. If ever you feel difficulty with breathing or other serious pains/discomfort, stop at once and consult a specialist.

I have asthma ever since my life has began. I play basketball and volleyball when i was in high school and college. It is been 3 years way back, and now i also get tired easily when climbing upstairs. Before , my doctor always advice me to do exercises to endure my lungs. But most of the doctors advices me to go SWIMMING they say it really helps you improve breathing and your lungs .
