Treatment For A Dog With Tons of Fleas, Ticks and Lice

A Dog Being Given A Complete Shave - That's a dog at the animal hospital being shaved. The owner of this dog decided to have their pet's coat totally severed as a final resort to unending infestation of fleas, ticks and lice. The hospital attendant seemed to be having fun doing the operation but the way I saw it, it was the dog that was having the time of his life...made me smile..

When my bullmastiff dog got sick, we drove him to the animal hospital to be treated. There at the hospital were many dog owners who were also worried sick that their pets were ill and weak and obviously needing treatment. While waiting for our turn at the operating table, I became curious at what was being done to a dog I was seeing through the glass window from outside the treatment room. The poor doggie was being shaved and the operation was almost half done! Its hairs were all over the table and floor. I asked the attendant the reason for such treatment. He said that the dog had became consistently infested with fleas and that the best treatment it could get was to get a complete shave. At first I pitied the dog because he had to be without its beautiful coat due to the parasites that seemed to have found a beautiful host in him. I pitied the dog that for the longest time, he had been tragically harassed by these unwanted tiny creatures. On the other hand, I felt relieved (as if I was the dog's owner? Well..I have a dog too!) Because the loss of his coat will give him freedom from the tiny aliens and he will become a happier, healthier and lovelier pet. Besides, the hairs will still grow in no time. While watching the dog being shaved, I thought the attendant was having fun. I guess he was, but the way I saw it, the dog too, was having the time of his life.

I also have this problem with our dog but unlike that treatment, we find time removing those ticks. We do not bother that much about the fleas because our dogs have less of those. Its quite a yucky activity pulling all those ticks and squeezing their bodies until blood will bursts.

Might be yucky but somewhat also satisfying. Love to squish those even tohugh my dog isn't always cooperative.

@jeanneyvonne I pull ticks off and drown them in a jar with some water in it.

oh poor dog, I really pity that dog. The owner should be more kind to the dogs and don't ignore when they have many lice and ticks. I hope the poor dog is okay already. and the hair to grow fast.

This is what we had to do months ago when our dog got infested with ticks. We shaved him ourselves and it took up to three hours to complete the job. We believe he got them from the horses that gallop up and down my street, even though he is usually only outside to do his business but it has happened to him twice in a period of 4 months. It is a disgusting procedure and I remember I couldn't wait to take a shower.

Yes, from the picture, I can say the dog was feeling good. Dogs don't stay in that position unless they feel secure and happy. Poor dog! She probably felt that the attendant was doing something good for her. I wonder how could the dog's owner wait until she got plenty of fleas, lice and ticks? Why didn't he do anything when he saw the dog started to scratch herself?
