Hello myLotters! As you all know, it's summer time in the Philippines and the weather here is too much to bear. I bet Filipinos out there are thinking of different ways to beat the summer heat. Aside from turning on the fans and air conditioning units and taking a dip in the pool or beach, I'm sure summer is the time for us to whip out those kitchen skills and make foods that are popular during the season. I'm thinking of Halo-halo, sago't gulaman, buko pandan, fruit shakes and ice candy. What do you think friends? What are the other summer foods that you love aside from what I've mentioned? Feel free to share your thoughts! :)

I guess Halo halo is still the most popular Filipino Summer food. I also crave for this every summer but I could not afford eating a lot else my throat will be irritated in the long run. I would just take one or two of this just to satisfy my cravings.

That's true. And drink lots of water after to wash off the sweets :)

Too much halo-halo won't be good for your throat. Though there's nothing wrong with having to eat that once in a while :)

I love making mango-graham float (tiramisu style) during summer. When served chilled, it sure beat the annoying summer heat. But yeah, nothing beat the classic (halo-halo, ice candy, gulaman and ice cream). Have a fun and healthy summer!

Why did you started this discussion ayeesha? Don't you know that I'm on a diet now? Ah, well zzarskie, can I also have some mango-graham? Hmmm. You can also include halo-halo. Have a nice day to both of you!

I'm sorry Aries1973. Besides Christmas, summer is also not the perfect time to go on a diet :))

I love halo-halo too! But since I don't stay much in the Philippines, I need to be content with ice cream and snow cones. Oh well....now I am thinking of purchasing an ice shaver so I can make my own halo-halo here in Australia. Hmmmmm.... good idea....

I hope this discussion is not limited to coolers because there are a lot of fruits that are in season during summer. I think a favorite is green mangoes with salted shrimp paste! Great for beach or pool parties if only diners will not wash there hands in the pool after eating this summer delicacy. This goes well with grilled fish or pork. Another favorite is cantaloupe that you either sliced or make into a juice with lots of ice is simply refreshing.

Of course :) I love grilled foods especially when we're out of town. For some reason, they taste extra delicious and it's making me eat a lot :) And yes, green mangoes with salted shrimp paste is definitely yummy :)

Halo halo tops the list for me too. Consider buko with ice and milk, sweetened ripe saba with crushed ice and milk and frozen fruit salad.

I prefer juicy fruits during summer, Halo halo is okey also but sweet food is a no no to me because of my health..so to be safe I'll go with fruits..

my doctor prevented me of eating sweet foods because I was previously diagnosed with high cholesterol and diabetis is in the genes of my family, so i decided to avoid sweets..

I'm sorry to hear that. Too much sweets can also lead to something that may not be good for the health. So better be safe. Anyway, there are lot of alternative foods available :)

Why is that? I hope it's nothing serious. With this kind of weather, it's really hard to resist from not eating anything cold. But of course, eating fruits is much healthier and delicious at the same time :)

Shakes are great! But oh my, too much sweet. Well, watermelon can be a better substitute when craving for cold refreshments. have a nice day!
