Hello Lotters, I used to like the media for exposing lots and lots controversies being done by Cops every often and when the opportunity presents it. but recently I started hating it because instead of just keeping the cops do their work, some just avoid their best to avoid media. i wonder if people really think that cops act simply to avoid the scrutiny of the media. But i am glad that's not entirely true, they commended cops for acts of bravery and kindness. One, who gave bandage to a beggar in the street, the cop happened to be a registered nurse. while the other was awarded and commended for fighting the NPA rebels, w/ only his hand gun, he got one and the rest ran! ( how cool is that ) too bad some good cops are always overshadowed by the bad ones.

I'm afraid that it's the same in all things, we only remember the bad ones. I had a lot of bother from the police in my teen years because I was a biker and, as a whole, bikers have a very bad reputation so the police didn't tend to wait for us to do things wrong. Instead of that, they stepped in early to find out what we were doing and stop us causing trouble. Where this may be a good thing when there is a lot of trouble, it just tended to make us hate the police because we couldn't go anywhere or do anything without being hassled when most of the time we just wanted harmless fun. By far the majority of trouble we got into was due to others picking on us, due to our reputation, and us having to defend ourselves and then take the blame. In that respect, we were exactly the same as the cops who gave us grief, we suffered because of the reputaion gained by the minority. The police, however have a worse time because their job gives them power and power corrupts if you let it, and plenty of cop let it corrupt them. It's a pity the good cops don't get more publicity as I'm sure them outnumber the bad ones, but as I said at the start, it's only the bad ones you remember.

Hello Glcleeve, I think the problem is that there aren't enough benefits for the police force and that's why some of them are resulting into other sad and negative activities that are not productive to the society. what am sad is that the media tends to publicizes bad cops than the good ones. instead of them getting a high moral, they end up being disappointed and doing bad things too

You have to remember that the media is a business and they give us the news so that they can make money. Nothing sells like blood, corruption, and bad news so that's what they report. Instances of kindness, integrity, and charity happen all around us every day but they rarely report it because it does not attract viewers/readers/listeners. The cops you heard about outnumber corrupt cops in most countries. When you hear about bad cops, remember that for every bad one there are ten more that are good.

yes there are still good cops who are trying so much to do their job right but as you said these are overshadowed by the ones who have numbed conscience and forget that they are supposed to protect and not to terrorize or take advantage of hapless citizens. I salute to that cop from Davao (PO1 Jessie Mallari) who have gone out of his way to help that beggar. May his tribe increase.

There are indeed a lot pof good cops , Letran. It's just that usually it's the bad ones' wrongdoing that is emphasized. Well, maybe because it's to make other cops be aware of being watched for bad deeds. I salute those good ones. They really deserve commendations.

actually yes.. Its unfair on the part of those good ones...the media should not focused on the bad side of the policemen, they should also look at their goodness...

Yeah I think our Police force has a lot of cleaning up in their ranks before the good cops will be seen by the public. But recently, I think they are doing this already but of course media would always highlight the bad cops over the good ones though. Although I appreciate the media for doing this so that it helps the Police Force straighten up their acts on the street and are aware of the things they while on their uniform.

there are a lot of good cops but bad cops overshadowed them.one thing to blame why this happened is the media because they sensationalize those bad cops and often regret the good ones or give little exposure.

I agree with you my friend, There are really many good cops out there. It's just because the media sometimes expose only the bad side of our cops today. There primary goal is only to find the bad side. How about the good side? This is what happening to our news today, we can only see and read bad news, rarely good ones. Such as sad thing, but its reality. We must do something about it. Personally, I don't hate cops because I know they are doing their best to protect us, it just that temptation sometimes corrupt them. We must learn to assist them as well..give chance and forgive them for their wrong doings, after all they are just human beings.
