When Traveling Becomes A Burden

Since my work place is in another place, I need to travel for almost three hours every day. I frequently encounter people who felt dizzy during the trip and would result to vomiting. Most of which are children. Just this morning, the passenger sitting next to me had two children with her who are more or less 6 and 3 years old respectively. On the middle of the trip, the younger one started to become uneasy and is about to vomit. It’s a good thing that they have with them a plastic. Maybe it’s one way of preparing when this thing happens. There are just people who experience motion or travel sickness and it is a burden on their part. This is also one reason why some of my nieces cannot go for a travel too often because of this problem. Aside from taking medicine for this kind of condition, is there any other way to prevent this thing from happening? Have a wonderful day everyone!

My youngest son used to have this problem when we're travelling (long trips) especially with air-conditioned vehicles. We need to travel most in the evening and put him to sleep- and that works for him. In cases we go to nearby places- we don't use the car air- conditioning unit rather open the window - but during summer time it is impossible to do that way. So, I tried to experiment on him- menthol candy is fine (but sometimes doesn't work), sour fruit helps and orange skin scent also helped him to control throwing up. Therefore- we packed few things such as menthol candy, sour fruit (lime in particular) and oranges - we squeeze the skin to emit the scent. (duh- it's really inconvenient) but we have to bear.

That was the time when he cannot yet take any medicine? I heard my mother saying that eating puto seko ( Puto seko is a snack that is very different from the rice cake puto. It is made from wheat flour and shaped into crunchy, bite-size pieces.) can help. Although I am not so sure about it but that is what she do when we travel to manila one time. Thank you for sharing!

My youngest brother used to get car sick when he was younger, especially during long trips. We usually give him a medicine to prevent him from vomiting. He also comes with us everywhere we go so he'll get used to travelling. Right now, he's totally fine. I guess by getting used to travelling, kids will be able to outgrow that :) Have a wonderful day!

Hi ayeesha! Ah, okay so it seems that people who seldom travel will most likely experience this thing. Maybe that is why I never experience this thing and also my children. I just pity those children who keep on vomiting while traveling. Thank you for sharing!

I guess so. My baby's nanny used to vomit whenever we go out too. She said she's not used to travelling and she gets dizzy with car fresheners that's why she has a tendency to puke. But since we always go somewhere, she got used to it already.

I need to travel for almost three hours every day? That is making it a very very long day for you my friend, it's not the time you spend travelling it's the working time you add on top. I remember doing this when I was much younger, I had to catch three buses to work, and three buses home, during the rush hour it would take sooo long with all endless traffic, there was no easier route or way of doing it. They do say that drinking plenty of water can aid the sickness, or by sucking a mint, may work for some.

That's true wolfie. But I have no choice because that is apart of my job that I have to bear. Sometimes I consider it as a waste of time. I should have been able to accomplish a lot of things during that period. Thank you for sharing additional information about this thing. But I also heard that drinking too much water before a trip may not be a good practice. Anyway, I think mint do really work for some. Thank you for sharing!

Some children suffer from travel sickness very easily. My daughter gets travel sick on long car journeys. Due to an air bag in the front she has to sit in the back of my car in a child safety seat. I tell her to look out of the window and let her take in some fresh air in the summer time. Wrist bands can be put on pressure points to stop travel sickness especially on a ferry. Having something hard in a pocket by the stomach can help stop travel sickness. On a long car journey I stop off half way or several times for my children to be okay. Have a lovely day.

I have known people taking Avomin just before starting their travel and they manage it very well. When there is such a simple solution why go for anything else?

The same tablet could be given in smaller doses for kids after consultation. This is a safe tablet. No hassles really.

I often encounter children having this problem maybe because those who are older can already take proper medicine. I don't know if there are also medicine for children that could address this problem. Thank you for sharing!

I guess one of the benefits of modern transport is that people have ore space and even the environment can be a little bearable. Of course, not everyone can have private vehicles but I guess many people fell prey to the condition of a public transport. We still use public transport but I guess we are willing to pay for a good blast of aircon 9evne though it is the cause of my motion sickness and long sleep). Anyway, before I learned to drink medication or just suffer hunger (in private or public) because I could have a nasty mess and makes the experience something to definitely forget.

Hi jeanne! There can be no better than taking a medicine I guess or preventing ourselves from traveling would be a better option especially if the purpose is not that important. Thank you for sharing!

it happens with many people. if proper care is taken, the problem to other co-passenger can be avoided. to prevent travel sickness a sugar candy can be put in mouth. fresh air also may give some relief.

hi Aries I had motion sickness when I was a kid and the doctors in various places gave my parents meds that did help me too.one advice that I remember is to stop every hundred or so miles, get out of the car and walk around for a few minutes then get back in and one should not feel sick. This did work a lot too. When I became a teen I never had any more motion sickness.

Hi auntie! I think the road condition on this place added to the reason why these small children are experiencing this sickness which would eventually result to vomiting. Thank you for giving additional input on this topic. Much appreciated. Have a wonderful day!

When I was young, I hate travel just because I just can't bear the smell of gasoline. But after so many times of traveling, I have used to it, and no more vomits. But even though, every time I have to travel by car or by bus, I would open a window to let some fresh air in, and it does helpful. Besides, I would prepare a box of menthocamphorate and a bottle of perfume, they can make me forget the smell of gasoline. You can have a try!

I was once one of those children who experience vomiting during trips. It's not a good feeling at all. That is the reason why I understand those children who vomit. I'm not really sure of the cause but one is probably the environment. I feel I vomit when the ride is closed and no fresh air coming in. At times, I think a problem on the inside of me. Whatever it is, I have overcome it and I know that all of us will one day overcome this kind. Anyway, I have just a side question since you've mentioned traveling 3 hours every day going to your place of work. Will it feel good if you spend those time with your loved ones? Or doing something more productive?

I don't have this kind of problem but I am worried when other passengers do. Why? First, I don't have any spare clothes that I could wear if ever they puke on me. Second, I really pity those children who are so young and helpless with this situation. Regarding my travel time, well I wish I could but my present job requires me to travel because my assignment is far my home. That is also the reason why I am doing my best to discover how to earn more from online source so that if ever I would be able to earn at least equal to what I am earning offline, then perhaps I can already give up my offline job. Thank you for sharing!

Taking Ginger Pills can prevent motion sickness almost completely. if you don't have Ginger Pills, than cut Ginger in small pieces and tell your niece to eat just before travelling or during travelling

when i was a child, vomiting would happen so long as i took a bus,a car even a train. i felt very ill and thought that i never wanted to take a bus at all.that situation had lasted a long time until i went to my college.because my college in far away from my hometown,it was in another city , from there to my home,i would stay in a bus for four hours, more than eight times a year.at the beginning,i couldn't bear that at all,but increasingly i used to this kind of suffering, and now,i merely vomit in the bus.i think the more times you take the bus, maybe the less times you vomit.

Most of the comments I read was helpful. My youngest brother and I usually take Bonamin an hour before we travel. I think that they shouldn't eat too much before or take some time to walk or rest after eating before going out, but I do agree that when you get used to traveling long hours or just travelling here and there, it really helps the people with travel sickness. In my case, I don't need to take meds even my brother,. And when taking long trips, I sometimes, well most of the time, =) bring food, fruits, like having my field trip or tour.

Oh! and sometimes when I get dizzy and feel like puking or vomiting, I do inhale exhale and close my eyes, thinking that I am not dizzy, I try to take a nap. It really helps me.
