our dog, kiro, just died. i don't want to elaborate on the cause of his death. but he's already almost 10 years old. after his brother passed away, he just started to get weak. he's been suffering for 3 days. and this afternoon, i just found him dean on his sleeping spot. you know what, i juts look at it on the positive side that he won't have to suffer more. rest in peace, kiro!

I am also feeling happy for your dog that he did not die suffering. Animals cannot express their suffering like human beings.

Being unable to do anything but just watching could be quite traumatic. We all pet lovers go through it in our life. The love that they give us in incomparable.

wow that's a really tragic way to lose your dog and the man who did it didn't even regret it.

It was good you didn't have to put it to sleep. I have had to do that with several animals. That is so hard to do.

what do you mean put it to sleep? are you referring to euthanasia?
• United States

Euthanasia is the right word. I am not sure where "To put one to sleep" came from. I know the Bible talks of one going to sleep when they really die. I guess that means since they will wake to either the first judgement or the second that they are really sleeping.

It is so sad to lose a pet that we treat like family. I do not even want to think of all the pets we had lost in the past. It's so sad.

i have a lot of pets that are no longer here on earth and i miss them all. it's just pathetic to always think of them when they're already in a better place.

hi iluvusabado I am so sorry and i know how you must miss him but I am sure he will be on the rainbow bridge waiting to see you again when your time is up to enter heaven. Its really so tough to lose a dog as they are such a part of one's family. I have never understood people who tell me why are you grieving its only a dog! To me thats really stupid and cruel. Our pets are not just dogs they are part of our family .

10 years old is akin to 70 to dog years, multiply by 7, it is considered a ripe old age so RIP Kiro.i am sure he will be missed by those who have cherished his companionship

sorry to hear about that. I can deeply understand your feeling at that time. My family are fond of raising dogs as they can bring much joy to us. But on the same time, losing them or seeing them pass aways is also a great pain for us. Dogs are very smart, tender and friendly animals. Let bygones be begones. we have those precious memories which we spent together, right? Have a nice day and enjoy your life

Every thing has its time, not only a pet. When they pass away, it is sure we will lose something important in pur life. But that emptiness can be filled as time goes by. Maybe what we can learn from the loss of a beloved animal is to treasure the present time when we are with them. The present is a gift.

that's really a good way to look at it, sharrycd. because we know they have limited time on this earth, we will learn to appreciate every moment we live with them.

i guess when you take an animal as a pet, we all know that they usually have a shorter lifespan than us humans. we should also be prepared with their passing when the time comes.

I am sorry to hear about your dog, Kiro. Like you said he won't have to suffer anymore. It is so hard on the remaining dog and they deal with their grief in their own way. Right now I am going through the same thing. I put my dog to sleep on the 3rd of this month. My sons dog is dealing with it but I am watching him closely.

I took her to the vet and he gave her a shot. This put her in a permanent sleep so she would never wake up again. Some people call it putting an animal down. I like sleep better. The real word is euthanasia.

I am so sorry! I know how hard it is and how sad you must be feeling. But I am also glad that he will not suffer anymore too. I lost my dog that I grew up and it was the hardest thing ever. I loved him so much. But he was very old 15 years old, he was sick and hurting. So I knew it was better off for him, it was just really hard on me.

What kind of dog is it? I know larger breeds die at a much younger age then the tiny ones.

honestly, i'm not familiar with breeds. i think his mom has a breed but his father is just a native dog.

i feel the same as you but i hope you will some day realize that you should give a chance to yourself to love pets again. not to replace the ones you lost but to give yourself a chance to love a pet again.

I'm really sorry for your loss. Dogs suffer a lot from separation anxiety. They find it tough to cope with it. May his soul rest in Peace. Stay strong.

maybe he was really depressed with losing his brother. they were born at the same time and always together.

Dogs are truly a mans best friend, and the loss can be very hard for people to cope with, but you sound like you are coping well, and for this I am happy, positive thoughts are much more useful than negatives.

It's hard losing someone close to you. Even pets, we get attached over the years. I had a dog, Bear, he passed away years ago and I remember it was hard for me to get over. He was a good companion. It's nice your looking on the bright side of things.
