So Unprofessional

I had to make a phone call to my daughter's doctor's office today because she has been sick and missed 4 days of school so she needed note from the doctor. So the receptionist answers my call, and lets me get through my entire explanation of what I need then tells me I have to repeat everything because she was busy finishing writing a message from the last call. Why didn't she just tell me to hold for a moment while she finished that? Or how about learning to write faster lady. I hate repeating myself it is just kind of a pet peeve of mine, and not giving a customer on the phone your full attention is just unprofessional. In the grand scheme of life it is not that big of a deal but it gave me an idea for a discussion topic. Can you remember the last time you were assisted by someone who behaved unprofessionally" either on a minor scale like this or or a grand scale?

I know what hyou mean - it was inprofessipnal and downright rude to. I had two experiences this morning where I had to repeat myself three times with a Bank Clerk and twice to my Cable provider. They were just not interested in listening to me and both kept getting my name wrong. No service at all amd it is all so stressful to deal with. Heck lady, hyou have bnrought up all my details on yhour screen and thisn includes my name so at least get that right

That really was unprofessional. She should have asked you to hold for a second. The other day I was craving a Blizzard from Dairy Queen. I sat in line forever waiting to get helped. As I was looking through the window, I saw a girl make an ice cream cone for a customer. She had dripped ice cream onto her fingers and she actually licked her fingers off and then proceeded to make another ice cream cone. I was disgusted! She just put her germs all over someone's ice cream cone. It was totally unprofessional!

I'd feel the same way too if I was in the same situation. I also hate repeating myself when I have fully informed what I needed to say.

I agree you need to be where you are at. We were taught that in college. If you are watching your kids play that is what you are there for, if you are taking phone calls then that is what you do.

Sorry to hear of your experience! Well I have experienced some unprofessional service from waiters or service persons who basically did not like their jobs probably. However these are minor, I feel it is bad to be unprofessional if you are a teacher, nurse or social worker where it is your job to be caring and people have placed their future in your hands. I had a teacher whom I wouldn't exactly call unprofessional but lacked passion, she was basically serving out a bond after taking a government scholarship. Of course I myself was a bad student as well:) Anyway she has since left the profession after serving her bond so it is good that she is now doing something she enjoys I hope.

Oh yeah! I would definitely be angered by that excuse! Did you repeat yourself without complaining? I actually had a similar experience and I told her sarcastically if she wants more time and should I write it for her instead. But she didn't react because she knew I was already angry. I think people like these should be reprimanded because they are there for one purpose only - to work. They're not there for a vacation and if they are still doing something else, they should tell the customer so. Whew!

ladym33 You have every right to be annoyed at this behavior! It's bad enough when we keep getting transferred to another person and have to repeat our questions..but to the same person?? No excuses for her

I have been somewhere that the people working there were very unprofessional to say the least. We went to a nail salon for my sister's wedding. The people there were very pushy and unprofessional. After we were done my sister gave the owner a tip because we all tipped the nail people individually. So the owner takes the tip and says this is all your giving me? What kind of tip is this?! My sister alone spent almost $200 in that place!! And then all 6 of us spent $60 each plus a tip on top of that for the nail techs! She was SO rude for saying that! And we put a bad review for them because we were so disgusted by her...

Some people are like that, because they dont like their jobs. I can usually tell this by their talk. Sorry you had to deal with someone like that. I would have asked to talk to her supervisor...

Hi I also have had trouble with unprofessional doctors in the past,in fact I have had a problem with a few, local and family doctors do not seem to be what they once were in the past,I am not sure why this is but am quite sure there is a reason.

Yes I do! And I regretted to even have done that call because it turned out to be a waste of time. I called my phone-Internet provider to report instability with connection for weeks now. I am usually calm with operators so they would accommodate me well (just a little psychology). Unfortunately, the operator keeps on putting me on hold and asks the same question over and over. I got tired for the third time and literally shouted why am I asked of the same question for three times! The operator then kept quiet for a while and apologized then I finally decided to end the call since I think the operator is not that focused on the job. I know training helps them deal with their job, but professionalism nowadays should be taught too. A lot of employees, especially receptionists, forget a lot of times.
