Light Sources

I want to buy some indoor lights, as several of my lamps aren't working not sure why, but put new bulbs in them and not working. I would like to have some ceiling lights; however, there isn't any electrical fixtures on the ceilings. I was told to look for Swag Cord Lights, so went out to my local stores and not many are sold. Anyone have suggestions for stores that sell them. Basically you plug in the light at your wall and the light hangs from a hook on the ceiling. I know might have to be really brave with swaying ceiling lights, as we get earthquakes. We do have one Swag Cord Light in our Dining Room and it hasn't moved a lot. I want to put the light at the back of the room, so its not over any ones head. It wouldn't be good to have people looking up all the time. My other thoughts are buying more table lamps for each room or floor lamps. I use to have a lamp you touched and it would turn on, but haven't seen any store carry them. Any suggestions are welcome, as I don't want to wall into each room and see my shadow.

I had a go at searching for lamps. One of my favorite things is to internet shop (not necessarily buy, but shopping. Anyway Lamps Plus has an amazing selection of swag lamps and touch lamps. As previously suggested Ebay is loaded with the hanging lamps. Some look so breakable, the shipping is costly or risky, but worth a go. They have tiffany, crystal, everything on there, Our rental has no ceiling fixtures and it's a dark dark house without the lamps. I like the floor lamps but they can chop up the room if not situated in the right place. I have one standing beside a chair for reading, but if I move the chair from its present spot, the lamp looks like an island beside the chair (make sense?) The torchiere lamps do give nice glow to the room. My son has one that has multiple fixtures so he has one pointing up and one down. Online at Lowes I found quite a few touch lamp control parts to convert your lamp to a touch lamp. Around $10 - $11 dollars. Hope this helps a little. I thoroughly enjoyed the search.

I am always worried about ordering a fragile lamp online, but can see a large selection at several places online. Some are so attractive that its was hard to resist ordering today. My husband suggested I think about it and vision them in my home before ordering anything. Thanks for posting.

You can get those touch thingies at any hardware store. They screw into the existing place where you put the bulb then you screw in the bulb. The lamp has to have some kind of metal to touch. I have one on a bedroom lamp and it's great but they cost about $10 each when I bought it 5 years ago. Get some torchier lamps. They are tall lamps with "bowls" on the top that direct the light upward. That way there is no glare, just light, and it reflects off the ceiling into the room. My grandpa used to have a swag lamp over his recliner. He could pull it down when he needed it and with a tug it would retract upward. It was really cool and I haven't seen another like it since.

I wish that light could be found would be perfect at my reading chair. I'm going to look at torchier lamps, as didn't even consider them. I am aware that its going to be costly to add lighting to my house; however, its worth it to be able to see. Thanks for posting.

I'm headed to E-bay to look, as can't believe the limited selection in my area. The idea that lights have to be ordered and could take awhile to come is really hard to believe. Thanks for posting.
