Hello friends!I use to sit on PC around 14 hours a day that is so much and as we all know that it is harmful to sit on computer to a long time, But in todays we can not do anything without a computer so we need to sit on computer for a long time and these days i use to sit on it for a longer time, Because my total work is on the computer in my office and after that i use to work online everyday that is so much but we do not have any other option. Is this really harmful to sit on our system for a long time???

"Excess of anything is bad". Sitting in front of computer for this long sounds to be tedious and exhausting. I agree that modern day working includes long sitting hours with eyes glued to screen, but it is advisable to take small breaks every 2 hours. You can just turn your chair a little to look away from the monitor and close your eyes for one minute. Then rub your hands and place them gently on your closed eyes. This helps a lot. Also, you should splash cold water in your eyes. It has a soothing effect. Walking a little in between also helps relax your muscles and refresh you. These are personally tried and tested methods. Hope they work for you too.

Well, people who say this are not entirely wrong. Long sitting hours gradually result in joint stiffness which affects mobility and can cause serious health issues. Again sitting for too long can result in obesity, stress, eyesight problems etc,etc.... So, it is better to keep taking short breaks in between and always keep your health as a priority.

Hello friend, like you I used to sit on my laptop everyday,I only have a break when i eat my lunch, when i feel tired, have a short break or I have feel that i am having a headache already but i have no choice I need to sit on my laptop for me to work. About your question,Yes,there is harmful effect of using computer too much. This can decrease our eyesight or tend to feel a visual discomfort, mental depression, poor posture and even loosening our muscle. I, myself often felt like this, when i feel like my eyes are getting tired, i just need to sleep or have a rest once in a while or take a short walk.By doing this my eyes completely recovers then i sit back again. That's it.

I too used to sit before PC and laptop near to 15-16 hours. As I am software professional, I have to work in my office for around 9-10 hours sitting in front of the PC. After that when I reach my room I start using my laptop. Some times I feel very much frustrated of being used these. Even if I feel to take some rest after some time I will start using my laptop such that I am addicted to this.

14 hours a day is lot of time but still if you manage it properly it wont be that harmful.Try to take short breaks ,one short meditation session in every three hours to rest your eyes and body.Best wishes.

That is very good advice. Taking breaks after every 2-3 hours is a must for anyone working with their computer, and will not only help prevent problems in your eyes and back, but also help you refresh your mind and keep you productive by not getting tired. Personally, I stand up and have a glass of water, or maybe go out to have a walk out in the street... whatever you can do to keep your mind fresh, instead of fully concentrated on work all day long.

Hi, 14 hours work on computer is too much. It would be harmful for your eyes and your body. you should take some break in between the work. Otherwise your muscles would become stiff. Online work is not important more than our health. You should take care of your health. Health is wealth.

I do believe that it can be armful if you stay at it continua;ly, and not take breqaks once in awhile, to rest your eyes, as they can get weary fro9m looking at the screen all day, and not take them off. What I do, is take several breaks so I don't harm my eyes anymore than they already are, as I do have cataracts, and they need to be removed, but that is for another day. Anyway, I will take breaks and do other things, things that I need to do outside or around the house, and even take a walk to get some exercise. By the time I get back to doing what I was doin on the computer, my mind is more refreshed, and my eyes focus better. It does help to take breaks. Take care, and have a very good day.

Working online is good because it brings you money. But staying 14 hours a day is too much. I hardly cope to stay for 8 hours with frequent breaks at about one hour. I noticed working at my computer many days makes my eyes to see in blur. That's why I make also a break generally in weekends. Then you have to think that working at a computer or laptop means sedentary life. And this is not good at all for health. So it must be compensated with walking or even exercise.
16 Apr 13
Hi ladyDD i am totally agree with you but more then 8 hours i wourk on computer at my office only and then i have to work some time on my own pc but i would decrease this time to spend on computer...

I would think for your legs to get a clot it would be as well as for your eyes. that is why it is good to get up and walk around and look at other things.

The most harmful thing about sitting at the computer for a long time is the effect it can have on your eye sight. It is recommended that for every hour you spend on the computer you take your eyes off the monitor for ten minutes to give them a rest. Other then that the only other harmful thing I can think of is the lack of physical activity.
16 Apr 13
Yes i am totally agree with you computer and laptopls are very harmful for our eyes as well as some other things also get effected becuase of this...

I do think it is harmful. First of all we don't do any exercises and our muscles gets tired, since we don't really do any exercises. Secondly our eyes are taking a toll, since they aren't taking rest, they get very stressed out and our eyesight worsen. Therefore I think it is harmful to stay on computer for a long time, but I still do and not really caring because there are laser operations for the eyes now.
