Do some Indian movies purposely take a dig at arrange marriage system?

Well i am not against Indian movies at all, i think many of them are quite entertaning. What i cant understand is that why its shown in some movies target the traditional arrange marriage system. For example i saw a movie called Band Baja Baraat, here the couple breaks up after falling in love and the girl gets engaged to someone else. The hero of the movie calls the guy and tells him that they did fight but the herione belongs to him and all that. The girl also supports the idea when the guy calls him ,she just rudely rejects him.Now the question here is why they presented the guy she is engaged with ,a loser. How would he know whom she is in love with and she would get back to him anytime she wants.By this movie and several other movies, why traditional system of arrange marriage is targeted unnecessarily?I am big supporter of Love marriage, but i find it inappropriate to show someone a loser when he/she is the victim of a mean act.Who is the real villain ,the girl or that guy she got engaged with.

Hi Gaurav, It's a drama industry for people in India, the more people watch your movie the more you earn. Most of us in India are supporters of love marriages, however, we don't have much options because of the restrictions in our society unlike western countries where arranged marriages are out of the world thing. Which I would say is logical. Just like a super hero in Hollywood, we have love stories and love marriages portrayed in Bollywood. When people watch the movie, they like it because they wanted to do the same but were not able to do so because of the restrictions and thus the Bollywood film industry earns money. It's all business, don't worry about it, if you are between 20-30 in age, you've max 40 years on this planet and that includes the time you sleep as well.

Hi bro You are so right about the fact that people watch they movies as they want to do the same things which is shown on screen but they cant apply it in real lives. That is exactly my point, movies are just representation of society in entertaining and larger than life manner. Filmmakers sometimes try to justify the trend in the society even if its wrong and people who are actually doing it are relieved watching all that. You are right ,its business where maximum profit is the ultimate goal. Thanks a lot for your response.

Not only that, with the lack of vision and moral values, people in Bollywood are now using Se* as one of the main ingredients of the recent movies, for short term they are earning money from it, however, it's highly affecting our society and it'll certainly have long term bad effect on our society and this money won't help anyone once they are morally screwed. But no one is understanding it at the moment, these people blinded by grid and lust, they are playing with fire and with them the whole country will burn in future. It's sad but just like a train without break our society is going to morally crash in future and lets hope that we won't witness that, otherwise, it'll be a very painful experience.

That's right ,Se* has always been a profitable subject to sell whether its in novels or in the movies. They justify extra martial affairs, infidelity and lot more.Just because many people are doing it ,its wrong to justify immoral behavior and mean acts.I agree , en-cashing the lust and immoral fantasies of people might get these people money but overall its putting us on wrong track.

I think the guy who is arranged to marry the girl is a real brave guy, because he is the one who listens to his parents. The bad part is that he fights with the lover boy, which is the loser part of him. It is different in some movies, where the arranged boy after knowing about the affair of the girl and the boy will support them both to meet each other. It is all about the film makers. They change the stories, from movie to movie. If you see the DDLJ of SRK, then you see that there is this arranged boy who fights him. In almost every SRK movie there was the same story. SRK made the Swades, and few others good movies.

You are right, actually the if the girls tells the guy she is getting married to ,that she has an affair and in that case if he tries to force her then i can understand if he is portrayed as a villain. In the movie i mentioned ,the girl has agreed to marry that guy and obviously he does not know that she will at some point, like in the climax will take a U turn,so why is he presented as a loser? for trusting her.You are right about DDLJ,it was the other way round there. Thanks a lot for your response.

Yes its just smart move by story writer because he must have observed that lot of youngsters do this and they would be pleased to see this on screen with justification.

In this case it is the girl who is loser, the boy was not able to find the truth in her eyes at first time was his lack of understanding. He should have predicted her in the first place. Anyway it is all the story cooked by the story-writer so he can make anything out of it according to his mind. I think they have the understanding of the audience and they write whatever they think it right.

Hi I agree with you. Though i dont watch movies frequently and not at all in the theater. I feel its just waste of time. Its been nearly ten years or more i didnt go to the theater to watch a movie . At home too i dont like to watch any movies which dont have any goo concept. we ll but if you are watching just watch for the sake of watching as these days movies really dont have any good concepts or story. Reality is very far from them.

Hi prashu You have a sensible approach but that's not the case with majority. These guys hype and justify wrong things and people try to follow it, this other day i read in the newspaper that in a college a boy tried to forcefully kiss his classmate because he saw in a movie in which hero does the same with a girl he likes. Of-course it is the mistake of people who try to copy whats shown in movies but partial mistake is of filmmakers too ,why justify and hype wrong things. Thanks a lot for your response.

Ha ha ha, well whatever is shown on screen is all enacted and it should never be taken for real. the actors or the scenes depicted on screen are all scripted we all always enjoy the scenes and should not think if such things can ever happen in reality because in movies they show a happy ending which is far from reality in our lives.

Hi subhojit My friend may be sensible people like you understand that what's shown in movies is just for entertainment but there are people who apply it in real life.I have a personal experience on that, made a topic on this too.Mother of a girl came with a proposal to us and she pushed so much for meeting her daughter and considering her for marriage. That girl had several telephonic conversations with me when i was abroad and showed keen interest. After three months she declared that her relationship was on hold but she has decided to choose her boyfriend. So basically she never told anyone about her relationship and all that and just made things complex. There are numerous examples like this.I have been in few serious relationships and i am big supporter of love marriage ,my point is screen space is used to justify wrong things and some stupid people actually apply it in real lives. Thanks a lot for your response.

I have not watched that movie and not interested to watch. I already quit watching Indian Movies years ago, except some of SRK movies. Some old movies are good to watch too. But, new movies, forget it except some of SRK movies. Now, most of the movies I watch are Hollywood movies. I think if you don't like anything, than quit watching. They will never listen and will never stop making these types of movies

To be honest, I feel like, the indian film industry, has taken the traditional values and culture, and basically turned into a way of earning money, even if it means to ridicule it. And there are two very down sides to this. 1. Their standard and quality of movies, is nothing more than stupid. They have not caught onto the level of intellect of the audience. It is very very stupid. 2. They lose their audience by showing them stupidity. And worse than that is, that there are still people who are willing to spend their hard earned money on stupid crap. I rarely watch Indian movies, and that too when they are aired on TV. i dont buy their songs, i dont buy their movies. it is beyond stupid.

You are spot on in judging the Indian film industry. They try to show Indian culture in larger than life canvas and along with that try to justify immoral and wrong things just to please a large section of audience .Its good that you rarely watch Indian movies, you are saved from all those illogical and immoral justifications inserted to make profit. Thanks a lot for your response.

Thank you so much! I appreciate you for your topic. :) Bollywood is the worst place to learn about the realities of our culture, sadly it is has become the identity of India, as it tints the culture of India.

They may be doing it. But they are bound to do that to attract audience.
