MRI have you had one?

I made it through this one without a problem. I am very closterphobic and had to have an MRI on my brain, cervical and thorasic spine. I didn't know what I was going to do. I had an open MRI and still had a closterphobic reaction to that. I had to be sedated for this one and got through it fine. I was out of it when they put me in and they monitored me closely. I would just be waking up as it would be time for them to adjust me or change the machinery. I would be out again going back in. It took a good 3 hours for the MRI and I am so glad they sedated me. When it was all over the Nurse brought me back to a recovery room where I was able to eat and go home with my husband within and hour. I was not able to drive myself home that evening and was told not to drive the next day because of the amount of sedation medicine they had to give me. What a little price to pay for being able to get it all done at once. I hope to never have one of these again.

My sister had a closed MRI on her chest area and she panicked because it was so small and they sent her to an open MRI. Meanwhile I had chosen an open MRI and i'm very claustrophobic (i'm scared of elevators) and the open MRI was still too small so my mom had to wait with me and talk with me. It only took a half hour so it's not that bad.

next time try asking your Doctor for sedation. I did it at the hospital and it was much better. I understand the open MRI isn't as clear. What do you know about that? I got good results from my last MRI where as the open one left some doubt.

Thanks for the response and kind words. I got my results and it was fine. I'm still scared of small spaces.

I've never had to have an MRI but my sisters have and they always have to have some kind of sedative too before they go into the machine. I know if ZI had to have one I would probably have a panic attack.

YES I am very clostrophobic as well and I had to have on of my head after a horrible fall ( well bucking off) from a horse last year. I was freaking out to and all the noises were awful, but I would just say a little prayer and I would regain composure and procede it took about 1 1/2 hours to do what they had to do, but all came back well, they said nothing was wrong my brain was normal, my husband disagree's highly !! ;) I hate that you had to go through all that but glad to see you are on the road to recovery

I 've had 3... I don't like them because it's an enclosed space and I'm spastic, which means I sake uncontrollably sometimes, because of my cerebral palsy.
