I don't want to talk more about it since I am extremely upset. Last night my computer installed the operation system twice. However, my data all lost since it merged my hard disk. Is it possible to recover the data? If so, which software?

Not without a preexisting backup. There's System Restore, but that only rolls back the index; it can't recover any file (or version of a file) that has been overwritten. And besides, all restore points were probably wiped out if the OP actually reinstalled Windows.

We all have our areas of expertise. You have talents that I don't have, and I have talents that you don't have. It reminds us that we all need one another.

I'm sorry to hear about this happening. I would suggest downloading Restoration from another computer, copying it to a flash drive, and running it from the flash drive on your computer. You can get the software here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Back-Up-and-Recovery/Restoration.shtml Understand that, once old data is overwritten by new data, it's pretty much impossible for a consumer to recover. Hopefully, your most important files haven't been overwritten yet. In the future, I recommend backing up to an external hard drive or online storage. Even if you manage to recover everything today, understand that your computer's hard drive will fail (die) eventually, and you cannot predict when this will happen. If it's important to you, then you need to back it up.

Take out the disk from your computer insert it on an external disk reader or have it slave under another disk on a separate computer. Install recovery program, such as suggested above by fellow mylotter and then wait for the files to be recover. Hope and pray that the files can be recover.

Sorry to hear about this! From the other responses you should have tried recovery using software. If there is still lost data, it can be recovered using hardware diagnostics, but this can be expensive and you will have to see how much the data is worth. They are able to physically go through your hard disk and recover even data that has been written over on the hard disk. This is how they recover data too in criminal cases where such data is important.

Hi, I'm sorry for this incident I have already made the same bad experience with my computer and I'm pretty sure that you won't be able to restore the files. I tried anything, tried a lot of solutions, a lot of software and advice but at the end of the day all that I could restored was corrupted and unusable files.

When you are installing the operation system, you are supposed to backup so that you can restore when it is done. Maybe you forgot this part of operation that made you lose your data. Or you might have formated it that caused this loss of the data. If so, it is hard to get all the data back. I wish you could find some excellent solution to this problem. Good luck, youless.

You can recover data from the hard drive using recovery software. Depending upon the strength of the file, it makes possible to recover the file or not. And the natural rule for this strength of the is that its strength goes weak is time. The more the number of days past the deletion of the file, the weaker the file goes. Hope you successfully retrieve all your files and data. Good luck.. :)

I don't know if you can restore your data or not. But I just wanted to give you some freindly advise. You should invest in some thumb disks and save anything you want to save on there. You can get some big ones and so you can save games, files or whatever. I save all my articles and writing outlines on some.

That's really a bad incident. While the OS was installing, there must be an option there to delete your files or retain. I'm not sure if your files had been deleted. The things you can do is, first check the available space in your drive, if the size it still same or larger compared to the date before the OS has been reinstalled, then there's a possibility that you file are still there. What you will do next is to search for your files. Keyboard shortcut is press and hold the windows button key on your keyboard, then while it is still pressed, press the letter F in your keyboard. It should open the search window. Search for a file you remember, if you will able to search it, then your files are still there, just changed location. But if ever you can't find your files and assuming your files were really deleted, then you may use third party software, like Recuva. It sometimes can retrieve your deleted files. Good luck. Happy myLotting!

Try to use Recuva. If software doesn't help you much, find a data restoration service for better rate of success. It ain't free, but if your data is worth it, then you might want to pay for better results. Now at least you've learned a great lesson - whenever you try to install a new operating system, back up your data first.

There are some conditions to recover the data, if your operating system overwritten the new data over previous one it will be hard for you to recover it. I hope it has not happened with you. There are few good software for recovering Data, use "recuva" or "recovermydata". These software have many possibilities of giving you positive results, all the best...!!
