Next weekend is Graduation..

I officially graduated in December, but I have my graduation ceremony next weekend. Later today I'm going to pick up my cap and gown for the ceremony. I already have a stole to wear for making Alpha Beta Gamma Honor Society.. it's pretty cool. I'm only allowed 4 tickets to the ceremony.. which creates a small problem since I have 6 family members. The twins were invited to a birthday party that day, at the same exact time.. and they'd honestly rather go to the birthday party, and since I don't have enough tickets anyways I figured it's fine to let them go. But then hubby's aunt called and she wants to go to my graduation too. Hubby forgot about the ticket limit and told her to come. So now my oldest won't be going either.. though I'm sure he doesn't really care. When I go pick up my cap and gown I am going to see if they happen to have any extra tickets.. but if not I guess it's no big deal. Did you have a limit on who you could invite to your graduation?

I think I had only one ticket to my graduation, maybe two. I honestly can't remember whether it was just my Dad who came, or my Mum too. I remember it being a stunningly dull occasion, so I hope yours is better!

No I'm sure mine will be dull as well.. I'm actually dreading it and wish I didn't have to go.

Do you have to? I didn't, and I wouldn't again. If I hadn't,they'd have just posted me my stuff.

I don't have to.. I already have my diploma. But now hubby's aunt is planning on going, so I can't disappoint her.

I don't remember about mine, but I do remember many others that had limits. Usually people were able to pick extras up from friends who were only bringing one or two people.

Both of my daughters are graduating in the coming months... one from university (May) and one from college (June). The university holds a huge ceremony outdoors on the campus and there's no limit to guests per student. They actually hold two ceremonies on the same day - one for the Arts disciplines and a separate one for the rest. Her ceremony is in the morning on a weekday, though, which is of course less convenient for a whole lot of people so I guess that's another way of managing the numbers of guests. For the college graduation, there is a limit of 4 tickets per student... with the option to get more from any students that don't require all 4, on a first-come, first-served basis. Congratulations on your graduation and enjoy your ceremony!

I think the ones that don't require limits are better! Hopefully the weather is nice that day!

So although you didn't specify college graduation, someone thought that although you are married with children, you were graduating from high school... Or maybe they assumed you did mean college, yet didn't think you'd yet gone to the real world even with a husband and children? Either way you slice it, someone telling you welcome to the real world is funny. Funny in a 'you've got to be kidding me' way.

I'm guessing someone didn't bother to read the whole post.. I'm also guessing they don't speak English too well. Hey.. last week I had someone call me a father! I was talking about my daughter.. and maybe her dance recital or something.. I forget, but someone said "You're a good father. I hope when I have kids I can be a good father like you". Um.. how do I give off them I'm a guy??

All my kid's graduations there was a limit ...so just the grandparents myself and their siblings went. We had an open house for their reception and had all the photo's etc there so everyone could see...are you still having a party?

The only graduation I had was high school graduation and there was no limit on how many people I could invite. I went to a small school with a big gymnasium. People who were not even related to the people graduating attended.

It is great that you graduated in December. I hope that you will have a lovely time at your graduation ceremony. It is lucky that the twins will go to a birthday party that day. You will have to see if any extra tickets are available I believe. If not you will have to say no to your eldest or my husband's aunt. My graduation happened in 1999 so that was a long time ago. I invited my sister to my graduation. She came for the day and paid a huge amount for her train tickets. My university was in North Wales. Good luck.

previously, graduation is a community affair. everyone is invited to witness it because it is not only a great achievement of an individual, but the whole family or even of the community. but the graduation event has become more and more a closed event. one has an official invitation to be able to witness it. this deprives some members of the family to attend this special moment in the life of their kuya or ate.

When I graduated from university, I actually didn't attend the ceremony. I remember it too being a few months from the actual day I finished all my classes and exams, and me knowing that I've actually graduated. I think that I was already working then, and my parents were living in a different city, so I just had to skip it.

When I graduated from college years ago, our university only allowed 2 persons to accompany the graduates in the venue. So that means I only get to bring my parents during the ceremony. Which is fine with me because what with all the graduation expenses and the upcoming board exams, I don't want my folks to spend more for additional company.

Hi there Katsmeow1213! That must have been hard even though some of them volunteered to not go so that other people can. I mean, even though they would rather be in other places, I am sure it would mean a lot for you to have them there on your graduation. Good thing that I did not have any similar problems on my graduation. We were allowed to bring as many as we want but they will be sitting on the bleachers since there will be just one chair for each graduate's companion. It was my mom, in my case.

Though I did not graduate from college I do know that most graduations do have a limit, especially high school graduations. Hopefully you will be able to get some extra tickets to accommodate everyone you want there...most of all enjoy the day you worked so hard for!
