Siren and red blinking lights

red light blinking - red blinking lights are for specific use only
India
April 19, 2013 2:39am CST
These are meant to be fitted on ambulances, fire brigades, police vehicles such that when they move on streets other vehicles should move to side and allow them to pass because of emergency. But some political leaders, ministers, VIP’s have fitted red blinking light on their PERSONAL cars; this is certainly illegal; but though they pass through traffic posts, none stops them. Today I saw a ‘blue color’ blinking light on the car of a person, he is smuggler, has very good relation with police and corrupted politicians; I just fail to understand why he is doing? Might be just to show. So what is the scenario there in your place? Can one use red blinking lights on his/her personal vehicle. Please respond comment and share situation in your place and country. Thanks in advance. Professor Dr. Bhuwan Saraf. PhD. April 19. 2013. Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

I am proud to tell you professor that since Pres. Noynoy Aquino became the president of the Philippines, usage of the siren other than by the police and the ambulance is now prohibited. Just like in your place, before, big politicians and people uses the siren so they can easily get out of a traffic. Now, they will surely be reported in the news and will be apprehended. Who wants to be in the news that you violated a law now?

This is a good news. We need people in power, who are strict in dealing lawfully with various situation, and in this way ordinary and more influential people also start respecting law better.

Hello Professor! I do not know if this is the case here in Australia but it just annoys me that it is happening anywhere. So what if they help run a country or whatever. Those lights and vehicles moving to one side should just be for emergencies only. Happy MyLotting. ~AussieGal~

There are a lot of other illegal installations and modifications on the list than the blinkers and the sirens. We even have that police horns installed in some private owned cars and they do get away with it. I think this is not as bad as those police officers driving official police squad cars for private use and on official duty time. I know this is really wrong and illegal but in a big country like ours, I believe these deeds do get by. However, I think we can never completely stop these people or prevent these instances unless they see relevance or importance of staying within certain boundaries. Besides, law enforcements are partially to be blamed for their failure some times.

I assume the political leaders, ministers and VIP in your country believe they are above the law and it is one of the many privileges they enjoy as your leaders. Even the traffic police understand they are untouchable and refuse to pull them over for misusing the emergency blinkers. It is a sign that corrupted politicians and leaders are growing stronger every day and they can get away from any wrong doing with impunity, it sure doesn't look good for the future of your country. Sigh!!

Hi, Sirens and blinkers are banned in our country, the only vehicles authorized to have them are patrol cruisers, ambulances and fire engines. The presidential convoy used to have siren equipped motorcycles but the president made a fine example of taking them away from his retinue of road vehicles, where ever he goes, he goes though the roads like any ordinary motorist, no preference and no sirens. I think his security escorts are having a headache dealing with it especially when the presidential convoy get stuck in heavy traffic. As a driver, I know that the rule when you hear the warbling signal coming in from your lane is to automatically reduce speed and pull over to the curbside to let the emergency vehicle pass without hindrance. I can see lots of drivers violating this rule, giving way grudgingly but I still has to see anyone who has encountered some traffic accident with an ambulance or fire engine, much more a police cruiser. They are too careful to meddle with it, they could take a criminal actiion for doing so.

Emergency vechicles should only be used by police, ambulances and fire trucks. Any one else should get a big fine for using them. Hopefully that would put an end to people using the sirens that should not be using them.

People here obey only when they are wielded stick. Yet many of the culprits themselves are associated with the lawmakers and able to escape punishment.

Here in the US you often hear of people who will put this on their cars to imitate a cop, etc when really they are not just to irritate someone or be able to go faster, etc. Personally if caught anyone, including cops be found abusing this, they then should be fined big time. Personally this is a problem is allowing people to take advantage of things like this. Don't they ever take time to stop and think of others first?

In a sense of false prestige and showing off to others, or for showing that one is powerful and has strong connections, many people use Red or Blue (mostly Red) blinking lights on their vehicles. This is something that can be addressed by better moral values in people. Yet, this trend continues, inspite of rulings by court, and police drives. It needs an attitudinal change.

This was devised to give priority to injured people to reach hospital or police and fire force to reach a specific area of accident or mishap, without hindrance but now this has become a symbol of power and authority and lot of misuse happens. In our place empty ambulance will put on the red light and siren to go fast even if there is no urgency.
