i'm working on a project right now and i basically need people. i'm now trying to contact friends i haven't seen in more than 14 years. if i'd approach them for this project, am i a user?

I don't think so. Well, if they truly are your friends then I don't think they will think that you are user. But if they are just some familiar faces you have seen for just a couple of times, then probably you can say you are using them for that purpose. What really matters is your intention. If you really need help, it's not bad to ask your friends even if you haven't really have any contact for a long time. And this will be a good way to reunite with them.

thanks, lloyd. we're classmates and we've really made wonderful friendship though it was suddenly cut because i had been busy with my life. i sincerely want to be reunited with them aside from my project. well, i wish it will get to them like you do.

Hmmm.... I don't think that "user" is the best word to describe it. If you think that there are better people you know who can help you, then it is fine to call them up and ask for help.

well i was thinking of them because i know them and they know me. though it has been years since we've made contact.

It really depends on delivery. If you are demanding that is using. However even those that we have not seen for a long time might appreciate hearing from you. This comes with a price! If you are willing to let your request go unanswered and not pressure then that is fine but you need to something additional I think. Since they are friends from long ago, even if they turn down your request you should really devote some time to establish a friendship once again?

everything you said i've taken for consideration. actually i've thought about them before i posted here. i don't really want them to think that i contacted them just for the sake of the project. i want them to feel genuinely missed by me. if they would turn down my offer, it's okay with me. i really want to have open communication with them.

No you want to be a manager, you want to manage people who want to work for you in your project. Hiring them to work for you is not free you must be paying them.

well, it's not really like i'm a manager. but i guess it's easier to understand if we put it that way. of course i have to pay them. it's just that i need help from people i know and i trust.

it depends on what you have to offer to them in exchange for what they will do for you. if you need them and they have nothing to gain if they agree to this, then in my opinion, you are.

well they will definitely gain something. anyways, i will not force them to join if they don't really like. i just need them to listen to my proposal.
