shopping a new store

Just recently we had a new store open up in our neighborhood. I would say that not a lot of people have heard of this chain before. Hubby and I went and checked it out. I'm still not sure about it. As prices go, it's comparable to our state wide grocery chain and to WalMart. It's a lot smaller than our other stores. I guess that's to help keep prices down by minimizing amount of product in the store. First thing we noticed, we had to have a quarter to get a cart! You get the quarter back if you return the cart. Most days when I shop, I don't have money, let alone change in my hands. I carry my card. HHMMMM!! Today, I just happened to have some change on me from last night. We noticed that there were a lot of different name brands in the store that we weren't familiar with. Still, we picked up some items. He's going to try a new coffee brand. I was able to get a more variety of fruit than usual. I liked that. Overall, I didn't get a whole week's worth of food and spent more money than I thought I did. Most of that was my fault as I went shopping without a list or a plan. That I take blame for. NEVER go shopping when hungry and not knowing what you really want. I'll make do with what I got and plan better next week. I did get a Chocew chocolate bar, it was rather good. :)

I learned that lesson the hard way. Now that I know what products that they do carry, gives me a better idea of what to get next week.

inserting a coin for the shopping cart is a normal practice here in italy. there is no harm since the coin can be retrieved when you deposit the cart. however, this is inconvenient for people who do not have coins with them. this has happened to me several times. i had to go inside the store to request for a change from the cashier so i could get a cart. a new store means there will be more competition amongst the existing businesses in your area. this is usually good for the customers. the brands that they sell might not be familiar with you so i suggest that you don't buy large quantities the next time you shop there. it is better test whether they sell products of good quality too.

I'm hoping he'll like the coffee blend. He's the only one in the family that drinks the stuff. I'm the one that gets skeptic about other products. I very rarely try new products as I'm a loyalist to what I like. What I did like the most, I was able to get more fruit. Here lately, I have been craving fruit, but our stores have it where it's out of my budget. This store was actually inside the budget. I will definitly be going back next week. Even a little more prepared.

New stores are great to have. Most have great sales to get you into their new stores.

It is definitely convenient to have a store from a large grocery chain in your neighbourhood. We have one within walking distance and it is so convenient, instead of going to small shops which may not even have what you need. Unfortunately I understand how this makes survival much harder for smaller shops. As for small change needed for the cart, it is inconvenient and luckily is not a practice of the store in my neighbourhood. However I have seen how shoppers take the carts to their cars or even homes and do not bother to return them after unloading their shopping! Of course many will simply give up the quarter and this may not change this habit, but still it might discourage such behaviour.
