Doctors are warning teens not to take the Cinnamon Challenge that's circulation on YouTube! A number of teens who have tried it had to be treated at hospitals for respiratory problems. They were told to swallow a spoonful of ground cinnamon in 60 seconds. Cinnamon is made from tree bark and contains cellulose fibers that don't easily break down. Animal research suggests that when cinnamon gets into the lungs, it can cause scarring. Please warn any kids you have or know not to try doing this because it can cause them to have breathing issues! http://search.yahoo.com/search?cs=bz&p=Cinnamon%20challenge&fr=fp-tts-900&fr2=ps

I have been reading about advice of taking cinnamon for diabetes or pre diabetes, but find it is hard to do. Even dissolving it in water or milk does not work. I have mixed it with Greek yogurt but definitely not what they recommend. So now I know the reason why. Guess you have to mix it with food.

I would think mixing it with yogurt would be ok. Your just not supposed to eat a large amount without drinking water with it. I don't know why anyone would want to eat it anyway. I never like the taste of cinnamon.

I like it with yogurt and on cinnamon buns, but not separately. I do like the taste, but taking a spoonful of it or mixing it just with water, not a good idea. What I like is Greek Yogurt with some coconut flakes, berries, and some cinnamon. And sometimes a little rolled oats or cereal fixed with it as well.

I hate cinnamon anyhow, but regardless whoever thought of this crazy idea should realize the implications and knock on affect it has obviously caused. Actually sounds like a prank to me, I wonder where it originated from, someone must have concocted this challenge up, I wonder if they did it themselves?

What they did was make it look like you could breath fire like a dragon and of course that's going to get the attention of other kids. I think the video should be taken off and the kids who started it reprimanded.

That is scary. I don't have any teens but do know a lot of people that does. I will share this with them. I think it is great that you posted this. The more the word gets around the better it is. Have a great day.

Yes, it's very scary that kids would do this. I don't know where they got the idea but it was not a good one. I hope most kids are too smart to try it.

Hi, I don't think I shall fall for such kind of nonsense. Challenge or no challenge, it is not good to do the things being suggested on online sites, even on TV shows for that matter. My two kids are online gamers but other than that, no more, no online offers, trials or challenges to perform.

I should think that any kid with half a brain wouldn't try this. I'm not a big fan of cinnamon as it is. Your kids sound like they are too smart to try it.

I've been hearing and seeing a lot about this cinnamon craze. Just the thought of it makes me gag. Not only because cinnamon alone does not have a great taste but also because it's a dry spice. My first thought is that a person would choke because it's dry. I guess people will try anything these days.

Kids are very impressionable and will try anything that other kids make look like it's fun. It's not fun it's hurtful.

Telling them about it is a good idea. You might explain why it's not a good idea to try even though the kids in the video seem to be having fun. I think that's what gets the kids to try it.

I'm so grateful for your post. My son watches Youtube a lot, and there's a possibility that he has come across this video. I hope Youtube would review uploaded videos like this. If what is uploaded can cause harm to people, they should do something about it immediately.

I think this video has been around for some time now so if your son hasn't seen it there's a good chance he won't. You might want to tell him about it and warn him not to do it.

Yeah, if you swallow that powder of ground cinnamon just like that, you may have breathing issue. So it’s better to warn anyone not to try it. It’s cinnamon so the danger is just with breathing issue. Don’t try it with nutmeg, since it’ll make you have hallucination and the effect certainly not pretty and can danger your life too if you consume it in excess. The kids should smart enough for not doing something like this.
