Player Harassment

Hey mylotters, So today I wanted to talk a little bit about a game that I have been playing over the past few weeks that I enjoy because when I play it I get to do something with my boyfriend that he likes to do. The game is called League of Legends, it is a MOBA style game, where you basically attack other people and try to win each lane (kill turrets) and get to their base and kill their nexus before they get to yours. The strategy is in building your character right (your champions) so that you can beat other champions and be stronger than them. Any ways, what I want to talk about is player harassment. I am relatively new to the game, so I am not all high and mighty in knowing what to do and how to build my characters. So every time we play, I and sometimes my boyfriend as well, get harassed by other players... they say things like, "You ______(fill it in with any word - they've all been used) don't deserve to win," "the fact that we had to carry you through the game is disgusting," "Why are you playing, you're such a noob," and etc etc. These types of comments I try to ignore, as everyone is going to be bad at the game when you start off... although I am not bad at the game.. they just happen to be better than me.. and they put money into the game whereas I don't have the means to do so. These types of things really hurt. I often report them for harassment, but am curious if any of you have had this type of situation? I like games that have supportive communities, not communities that get pissed off at you when you aren't as good as them.. it's sad really..

WOW! I play league and experience the same thing, my advice to you is simply ignore them by hitting Tab and pressing the mute button the right side of the screen. Honestly, I've done that to other people which isn't in my best interest, simply because I hang out with friends that have quite an amount of temper, which seems to emit to me and I emit it to others. Honestly, get skype or something, talk to him over that, stop caring about what these a**h**** are saying because it's just like life, if someone doesn't like what you're doing, which in this case is learning a really fun game, then they're going to try to pour salt all over your dinner, now this is metaphorically speaking. If you're on the North American Server add me I can teach you a few things, it makes the game much more fun!

I have started to resort to either just practising with the champions mainly and only playing with others when I really feel like just being able to deal with all the crap that comes from those who think they are the s*** - So I will keep that in mind about muting the other players, I just don't like to... I have Skype, but I don't play with players where I need Skype lol, I don't play in ranked matches yet because my boyfriend and I haven't made up a team yet to play in ranked matches with. I don't really care about what these guys are saying but when they attack me personally it pisses me off really badly, and makes me want to yell at them and just nail em to the wall y'know? It is a really fun game, and I will keep playing regardless... I just wish Riot Games would put something in place to make the community a more positive environment.

This is common with video games online. The thing to do is practice a lot and play at your own skill level to avoid this kind of stuff. Even at games I am good at and know how to play I encounter this after an accidental mistake sometimes. Don't take it personally and just ignore it, if anything it's incentive not to screw up. Since video games are mainly played by teenage boys, expect the aggro to be high!

I play a lot of video games online so I know that it is common, but I have never once experienced it as bad as this. I have resorted back to practicing with the different champions and learning them really well because I honestly don't feel like playing with other players if my experience is going to be negative. I take it personally when they start attacking me personally. Are video games mainly played by teenage boys lol, I know a lot of girl gamers out there, considering I am one. :P
