Today a mother said her son wasn't allowed out of school term for 5 days. The lady wanted the last week of July and her son's class would be playing games and watching videos that week. Her son has special needs and does not like busy or noisy places. She told me another child in that class of 4 to 5 year old has been told no for an 8 day vacation in term time. I think that head teacher is being silly and under valuing traveling. She agreed to give my son 10 days vacation during term time. We are teaming it with the half term to make a 3 week trip to Eastern Europe. I consider we are very lucky indeed to be allowed to go. I have proof in writing that she said yes to us. She began head teaching in January. The old head teacher retired and he gave us 10 days vacation in March or April of 2012 to travel to South America. Do you believe the head teacher under values travel? which trips could be educational in your view?

I think it is what they can afford. Also what the pupils will learn on travel. When I was young it was the grade A students who were allowed to go on a class trip. A lot of people have their priorities on other things and cannot afford travel at least to Eastern Europe. It would be like students taking a trip from Winnipeg to Minnesota or the Central Mid United States. It is the cost. I would like to go to South Dakota to see Rushmore - really it is that movie North by Northwest that drew my interest. But until they get rid of Obama and get rid of those horrible searches, would probably just stay in Canada.

Vacations in May and June term time and September and October term time are cheaper times to travel. The summer holidays late July and all of August are mega expensive. My main expense is my mortgage. I still love to travel and will do so when I can. My travel priority is very high compared to most other people. I hope that you will travel to South Dakota to see Rushmore. Yes, those searches are horrible. Let us hope they will stop those soon my friend.

My mortgage is paid up, but I do not have a car. Most of the money is from my husband's estate, and I never had good paying jobs to put much aside. I do have enough airmlies to travel across the country, but not to the States and that is because not only the searches but now they want to charge Canadians for traveling to the States.

Some schools have really strict rules about taking children out of school during term time, trouble is travel prices and accommodation shoots up in the holiday season. And not all families can afford to travel at peak season. I am glad you got it in writing, just in case they turn round and change their minds. It won't be long now my friend and I am getting excited for you.

Hello Wolfie. Last year we went to Cornwall in the last week of July and then the prices shot up lots more for those going in August. Not many families can afford to travel at peak times like summer's August and winter's Christmas. Yes, it is not long now my friend and I am glad you are excited for me. We are going by train all that way. I can't wait.
