How good is your internet connection?

I recently am having trouble with my net connection. I first thought it was my laptop and did all the usual things to try make it run faster, turns out it's just that work is being done locally and the connection keeps getting cut. I'm just curious if anyone else here has trouble with their connection and how often. Also another thought is do you check your connection speed? if you don't, I strongely suggest you go to speedtest(dot)net and check it. Some internet suppliers say they are giving you a certain amount but you can get ripped off, having said that I wouldn't worry if you are only a 1MB off what you are supposed to be getting. That generally is cause of your location and not being able to get the best connection.

I am having the same problem as you. Our internet connection in our house is too slow. We tried calling the customer service of our internet service provider but all he said was that there is no problem with the speed of our connection according to their records and computer. He even said that maybe our connection is too slow because of the applications we install on our computer. But no, We tried using other computers with just a little applications installed and yet we're still getting a very bad, very slow connection.

Do a speedtest online, it's only way to find out what kind of connection you are getting and if you are getting what they say you are or at least close to it. Then I suggest that's a problem with your computer, it could be a virus or it's to be defragged or have a disk cleanup done. If you are having any trouble with them, go online and you can find somewhere which gives you a step by step guide.

Well, I am just using a prepaid USB wireless broadband and I have to be proud that I do not have problems with it. The speed is stable and it is not intermittent, unlike in my previous ISP.

Wouldn't have thought the USB broadband would be any good but then again this is the first I have about it. I mean like the first i've heard of someone's experience of it.

My internet connection is actually really good now. But when I first bought my new laptop, I was having tons of trouble with it. Not only was it slow, it also would cut out for a couple of seconds every few minutes. Since I sometimes play multi player online games, it was really frustrating me and making it impossible for me to really play them. I was afraid that maybe my laptop was defective and I would have to return it or send it in because I had a warranty. But I simply did some research and figured out that I just had to change some of the advanced settings of the wireless network adapter.

Well ideally it's better to play multiplayer games with a wired connection anyway.

I believe the speed depends on the access plan we signed up for which ranges from 2Mbps to 10Mbps. I am having 4Mbps and it serves me quite well and as for price the provider I signed with came with the offer of 2x the speed at the price of 1x. I think connection speed will vary when your connection is shared wired or wireless at your location. Much so, if it is wireless and have quite a few computers connected at the same time. You will need to see if any or all of the connections are on heavy usage like video streaming, downloading or online games which can take up quite a considerable bandwidth. If your access is wireless, you need to consider your location where you are accessing like distance and number of walls in between which are relative to your WiFi signal strength. Also, you may have to check if your neighbors are tapping on your wireless internet access via your router. This usually happens when you do not customize the security settings of your router allowing others who have no business tapping on your connection.

It's pretty fair here where I live.I get what I pay for and it rarely gets disconnected by itself or slower. If there are lots of people in your area using the same network then you're more likely to experience a slow download speed while heavy internet traffic.

Well yes I know about that and lots of people do use it. Also from what I gather they all use it wirelessly. It's not the fact that it slows during busy times or even that it cuts out. I would just like some warning of it, if they know they are doing work in local area and might affect connection.

Mine is good. It is exactly the same like it has to be. And I'm getting what I pay for :)

My connection works fine. Although there are times when I do not have that fast connection speed. I always call customer support regarding it. Sometimes, there is a need to reset my modem.

Well our internet connection at home is less than 1 mbps, which is really slow when you compare it to the average speed of internet connections of homes in the US and Europe. My country is a third world country, hence it's not surprising that in terms of affordability of premium internet speeds is not yet accessible to most people. Anyway, I am still thankful that our internet connection can still satisfy our internet needs.

Im a VPN user so it is always free but it is very slow. Sometimes I get pissed because it takes so long for the page to load.
