It usually stands for "Laughs or Laughing Out Loud". Sometimes people who know each other well use it to mean "Lots of Love" but this is not so common.

@dawnald That reminds me of the cryptic things we used to put on the back of love letters. The only one I remember now is "SWALK" - "Sealed with a Loving Kiss".

@owlwings I've heard "sealed with a kiss". I never put that stuff in letters though, never occurred to me...

Usually used when texting and meaning "Laughing out Loud". Really meaning that you think what they said is really funny.
