What Is 'the Gospel of Jesus Christ'?

I ask because I got some snail-mail saying we needed to direct people to "My Hope America with Billy Graham" (after a little word from ad-fly's sponsors ) to help share 'the Gospel of Jesus Christ'---which started me thinking 'what for?' I mean, I know "the old story, where our Savior came in glory," but how does that Gospel help us today? ... maybe that's a better question: What Use Is the Gospel of Jesus Christ Today? Here-&-Now, Where G*d Is? This makes it sound like Jesus Christ is nothing but a distraction, to get our minds off of our little problems and onto the Kingdom of G*d. That's fine, unless 'solving our little problems' IS 'the Kingdom of G*d'! The story that encapsulates the true Gospel to me? David vs. Goliath! in which Christ is (as always now) whispering to the Holy Spirit in each of us (each of us being David), and Goliath is the 'world that gets in the way.' You'll remember that David didn't "pray to G*d and then ignore 'the problem' (Goliath) and let destruction take him"; NO! he picked up the stones, slung one at Goliath's head (killing him), took Goliath's sword from him, and beheaded him! He praised G*d for the strength & direction to do so, but G*d didn't do anything! That's 'The Gospel'---that G*d gives people the strength to do what needs to be done. And 'the Gospel of Jesus Christ'? that G*d's plan for you is not something you will ever know, but you know that His plan for you is for the good of His kingdom (not yours)
