Did you know why dogs walk in circles before lying down?

Im sure all dog owners asked themselves that question at least once hehe. I just read that this behavior dates way back to prehistoric times when dogs had to make their own beds."This behavior was hard-wired into the dog's ancestors as a way to build a safe 'nest,'" Just an interesting fact I thought Id share.

What a coincidence. My friend and I had a doggy play date a few weekends ago and her Rhodesian Ridgeback 'Margot' did the circling thing you speak of. We were laughing at Margot and I said to my friend "Why do they do that circling thing?" My friend explained to me that they did that to make a bed or nest for themselves to sleep in. I think they used to circle around to flatten the grass so they could sleep on it!

I never heard about this before. I just did a quick search for wolves, and I have not found anything, but if it is correct they should have the same behavior. Thank you for this interesting post.
