Most of you may have or admire to make some kind of public appearances in your lives, be it your school, graduation, job ,etc , when you are made to share something with the audience. While looking at some contemporary colleagues , we do question ourselves about how to become as effective and effectual as him/her. Here are some of the things you should keep in your mind before you make a public appearance in office or somewhere else. 1. Prepare well in advance: As somebody has rightly said, "by failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail", if you need to be fluent and feel confident while to speak , prepare well in advance , at least 2-3 days prior to the lecture. Practice a mock at least once before you deliver. 2. Connect: Its a myth about how you can connect to your audience. I would suggest the solution in this way: If you are in audience, you will hear what interests you, not what the speaker is interested to tell you about. No matter how important a subject is, you will not hear until it appeals to you. Thus, I would suggest one gear to your oratory, know your audience and know them well, it means try to anticipate what the crowd wants. Try to take example from real life. This will definitely interest them. Take them from known to unknown, as simple as that. Never use offensive words while you speak. It may seem to be appealing or connecting, but trust me, its not so. 3. Face them: Its a common experience to almost all of us, as when we look someone gazing at us , we BLACK OUT. This happens and its fine too. But if you want to avoid this, try speaking in front of a mirror, and that's all you need to do. All fears will run away from your mind after this. try it once, and tell me about your experience. I can bet, that you will never hesitate ever to speak in public. 4.Question Them: Always try to throw questions or a small puzzle to your audience to make them think. Try to make it a dialogue than a monologue. After this, you will never see sleeping or yawning faces anymore. But, be careful in asking, always ask what you think is easy and known to them as querying about something weird or difficult will make them feel inferior or sometimes even, offended. 5.Never Read: Its a common habit about people reading papers, slides, etc while they deliver. It makes our job easy while speaking, but trust me, its not fruitful. Instead , I would suggest to write a few bullet headings and keep a note of them, this will appeal to audience that whatever you are speaking, its REAL YOU. 6.Modulate your voice: Be careful about the tone of your voice while delivering a speech, never be monotonous in tone, otherwise be ready to see audience sleeping with their eyes open. To learn how to modulate voice, best is to watch English news or Hollywood movies, whichever interests you. There exists a big list of do's and don'ts in oratory, but these are some of the cardinal tips which will enable you to make a bang in the minds of the people listening to you. Making public speeches opens your personality to a great deal and makes you feel a lot more confident. Its a great way to share your thoughts and opinions once you learn the art of effective speaking. The real learning will come only after you try, but you will always find the above mentioned word helpful. " Ideal conversation must be an exchange of thought, and not, as many of those who worry most about their shortcomings believe, an eloquent exhibition of wit or oratory." - Emily Post
