Oil Update: Brent crude falls below $50 for the first time since 2009

Benchmark Brent crude futures dipped more than a dollar to $49.92 per barrel just before 3. a.m. Eastern Time, hitting levels last witnessed in May 2009, though prices surged back above $50 later.
