Have you met any online friends? How did it go?

In my Sandra in Spain life, I have made a lot of online friends, mainly writers. I've also met a few of them over the last few months, and I have to say every single meeting turned out even better than I hoped. I've also met a few non-writer friends, and again, it's all gone really well. Another meeting is scheduled for next week, and I have to say I am really looking forward to that one.
So, is it just me being fortunate, or have you also had good meetings with online friends? I think it probably helps if you get to know them really well online before attempting a meeting. At least, that seems to have worked with me. What do you think?

I haven't met anyone from my online sites, mostly because of financial issues on my end. If I had more money I would go visit SO many people from here because I know we would get along so well.

Yes, I have met quite a few online friends. I loved each and every encounter I have had, and the experience. I also married one of them.

I have met several online friends, and I enjoyed meeting all of them. Some years ago I started a group on a social networking site, we met offline a couple of times. One of my online friends and I exchaged emails for a while, and one day we decided to meet offline. Our meeting went really well. We talked for hours and we had so much in common. 13 years have passed since our first meeting, and we are still close friends. I met another online friend in 2007, and we also became close friends offline. We don't live in the same part of the country, but we visit eachother sometimes.

I've only met one sort of "pen pal" that I had via snail mail - but I haven't actually met an online friend in person (although less than a handful I have shared my "real" life with on Facebook). I would think getting to know someone well online would make for a successful first time personal meeting (I wish I could convince my friends of this who do the online dating thing!). Good to see you again - you may know me as SmilePie from that other place!

I met quite a number of them. Most were good but a minority of them were idiots. The good ones, well...I'm married to one of them. I have heard lots of people say you can't really trust people on the internet. True to a certain extend but I took a gamble that led me to my current husband haha

Wow, that's the ultimate meet up. I think you have to trust your gut feeling. I invited an online friend I had never met to stay with me. We had a great time, and she's moving to Spain next month.

@Sandra1952 I stayed with an online friend when I was visiting KL. He turns out to be a great host! We became good friends. I'm now waiting for my new place. After that, I'm going to offer my place for couch surfing and air bnb *grin*

I have met one friend from Yuwie, and one from here, and a third person who is the sister of a Yuwie person who is a friend of the Yuwie friend that I've met. Got that? :-)

I have been active online since 2010 but I have only met 2 people ever since , And they were my fellow workers online. It was fun though but we never met again.

I have met good friends online and often corresponded for years, as well as met. One of them, from Australia, came to visit one year for a month. I showed him around my city and we had a great time! I also had a great camping trip with a friend from the east coast that I met online through a game and it was wonderful to meet after years of phone/gaming friendship.

I met one a few years ago from yahoo at the time they had chat rooms. They are gone now, but I have a lasting memory of someone I met from there who lives in Bronx, NY. When he and his girlfrined said thery were coming to Oregont to meet me and my husband at the time, I was shocked. You never know what people are like before you meet them, as some a total different persona than they do in real life. He was just like what he portrayed on yahoo. He was only here for a few days but we all made the most of it and went to the State Fair, and that was fun too. I miss talking to him on yahoo, but I do have the memories of meeting him in person. I hope that someday I can meet more.

Actually, most online friends I have met were online gamers. We talked a lot about games we were interested of. But now, I don't have time to interact with them because I already stopped playing online games.

I've only had one opportunity so far to actually meet in person with an online friend, and it went very well. I'm going to have to let her know this site is back up.
