Happiness is A Choice

We all want to be happy and a lot of people are using their lifetime searching for that happiness. Sometimes people depend their happiness on material things like buying a high end car, a big house, having a large of money inside their pockets and all other things that money can buy. Others depend their happiness on other people like being loved and appreciated in return or just being with the person they love. But what if all of those things are out of reach? Are you going to allow yourself to be miserable all your life? Happiness is a choice. You can choose to be happy and contented then embrace what is there for you or choose to be miserable all your life.

Your circumstances are not necessarily a choice but how you respond--like being happy, contented, etc. is your choice.

Actually living in this world means doing a series of choices and that includes happiness.

That is right and we should always make the right choice by being happy

@cherigucchi But sometimes we can't be happy because there are circumstances that could make us sad even if we don't want to. This is why it is called happiness, It depends on happenings that happen to us.

@salonga I agree but we can still make a choice not to be affected by it in long term basis.

Happiness is a state of mind. We could be happy even watching a sun rise and we may not feel happy even if we buy an SUV for us. Definition of happiness differ from person to person. For many people acquiring material things is the best sources of happiness. These kind of people do not look for inward happiness but they search happiness outwardly in material things, and they love to boost about their assets. I think if one is earning well and he has a supportive family and he has a roof on his head, he should feel happy in this world. Nice post.

Those simple things no matter how difficult a situation may be can bring happiness at least once in a while

Happiness is really a choice. But there are times or a point in our life that happiness is not enough. Like you have a good wife and bright kids but you just rent the house. I would be better and a better happiness if we could have a house that we can call our own. Sometimes, you see strange people begging in the street. You want to help them but you do not have much money. Happiness for me is when I can help them get a better life and not just giving them a single peso or ten just for their food today.

I understand your point. We cannot guarantee that happiness will be there 24/7. We face different situations every hour and there is no assurance that we are always on that track of choosing happiness

I believe that happiness is a choice. Sometimes we don't choose the things that happen to us, but we choose our thoughts and our reactions. We can always find something to complain about and we can always find something to be grateful for. Some years ago I had a friend who had cancer. She believed that it's always possible to find something to be grateful for. She was not grateful for her illness, but she was grateful because her illness showed her how much her family loved her and supported her when she went through the difficult and painful period of her life. On the other hand people aren't always able to focus on the positive things for instance if they suffer from depressions. I have had depressions since 1998, and when I am ill my thoughts are very dark and am unable to see that I choose my own perspective.

Exactly. You said it well. Your friend is a perfect example of a very strong and positive person. People handle things differently and they make different choices for different reasons.

I agree that happiness entirely depends on yourself ..One can be happy with simple things and be unhappy inspite of having all the material wealth possible...It is not permanent, so we need to grab those moments and enjoy them , so that we have those happy memories to look back..

@cherigucchi I agree, the very same material wealth and money could be the reason for some who do not have enough, poverty can be very distressing and ill health too !

It is our own choice and attitude towards seeing and considering happiness that counts.Happiness comes from self realization.
