My healthy child

So yesterday I hinted at a discussion about Naomi and her doctor's visit. Naomi has always been my healthy child. Despite the fact that I can't get her to eat healthy foods much, she is rarely sick, and other than an injury almost two years ago when she fell and hurt her knees, she rarely goes to the doctor other than for checkups. That changed last April when she had an awful pain in her chest while running, training for the 5K, and had to stop. The doctor diagnosed her with costochondritis, and possibly reactive airway disease. Basically, she has inflamed muscles around some of her ribs, and can't do any running or anything involving arm movements. We thought it would have cleared up by now, but apparently it can take months. So for now, PE restrictions, and she won't be able to make up the 5k unless she walks it. She has a note allowing her to do that, but she still gets pretty out of breath, so I don't know.

I learned what 'chostochondritis' was with this discussion. When I read "reactive airway disease" I thought that I had something like this when I was a kid. They thought first at asthma, and gave me medications for it, and then, as it was not something regular/continuous like your daughter, they thought that it was perhaps an allergy. After tests, it was an allergy to the dust of wood : no more wood around, and it was finished. To have difficulties to breathe is something painful, I hope for her that it will not last long.

@dawnald I can understand your concern. I have been through this with both my boys.

Why does she have to do the 5K?

Sometimes we really can't say no matter how healthy we are that we will not be susceptible to other ailments . I hope she will get better .

IN this case, I think it started when she took a blow to the chest when they were doing self defense. Thanks.
