I am receiving this email today : "Sir, Please allow me to ask you your opinion. Mr X, director of Y Publishing, told me that he was interested by my works to publish them in their C collection. The scientific advisory board was divided. If Mr A gave a favorable advice with some amenities needed, Mrs B gave a negative advice. I have had the opportunity to discuss with her at her university. She considers that what I wrote deserves to be published, but she thinks that I should break the book in several articles and submit them to different reviews, or to another editor. Then, I am blocked for Y Publishing. The great weakness of synthesis on my subject (read by example the article of Mr Z [Mr Z is one of the best in his domain] published last April in ... and accumulating the most elementary mistakes) encourages me to continue to write my own ambitious synthesis. Therefore, to not afflict you ["inflict" would have been better, you have already afflicted me] the reading of 400 pages, I send you only the introduction, the conclusion and the table of contents to give you an idea of my global approach. Truly yours, W" I have not yet responded to this guy. I need your help first : 1) How can I tell politely to Mr W that I shall support his theories as soon as a flying saucer will land in my garden ? 2) Can I tell to Mrs B that she should better not use an encrypted language when she speaks to a dork ? 3) Should I forward this email to Mr Z to laugh a moment ?

@1wldngl @allknowing I figured that I would stop in this box and join you ladies for a drink to see if any of us have more clarity on the situation after a couple drinks and a nice chat.

@topffer But that would not be any fun, because then we do not have any excuses to stop and chat and have a drink (or five) while munching on some brownies.

@purplealabaster All right, you won. I will not start again another discussion like this one.

I always thought I was good with logic. For example: If A -- B If D -- E B=D and A=true Therefore E=true is correct. However, the A, B, Cs and W, Y, Zs in your example do not seem to be correct or even make any sense.

@topffer I thought that was rather the point, though, because Mr. W was not being logical and was not drawing the proper conclusions to the equation. @allknowing LOL - that is the right concept but the wrong application!

I know what is known deductive logic - a table has 4 legs and a cow has 4 legs. Therefore a table is a cow or a cow is a table.

This is not algebra or logic, although there are a few constants. What can I tell ? I will not put this discussion in the full edition of my discussions at myLot, therefore it will not be a full edition.

The great weakness of synthesis on my subject ... encourages me to continue to write my own ambitious synthesis. This Mr. W seems to be more obstinate than me I think you should go with all the three options you provide. You are still being polite to Mr. W when you say, you will support him when those saucers land at your garden. However, at the end of it, just let him know, that there are still some who think he needs help for sure. And yes, you definitely need to find Mr. Z, he should realize his mistake of pointing out the weaknesses to Mr. W as this seems to have complicated matters and now Mr. W is on the loose . Maybe Mr Z can give you an insight on how to tame Mr. W now Btw, I loved the idea of our deal @PhredWreck

Mr W has invented a new wheel, but his wheel does not turn. His text is pitiful, and I can only disagree politely ; if I was encouraging him, he would use my email to find another publisher (it happened to me in the past with another Mr W). I have forwarded his email and attachments to Z to have some fun.

@topffer Mr W has invented a new wheel, but his wheel does not turn Oh no. Dont tell me it is triangular in shape In case Mr. Z reverts back, I am sure that would be the part II of this discussion and I am going to keep all eyes and ears open for that

@thesids I cannot give details, but some arguments are ridiculous, and it is not Mr. Z who is doing elementary mistakes.

Wow, he seems such a great writer. I can't wait to read his books lol! It's such a level of gobbledegook that it is almost a new art form. Did he actually attach any of his book sample chapters with his barely coherent e-mail? At best he is going to find a vanity publisher.

As he said, he attached the introduction, the conclusion, and the table of contents. His conclusions are crazy, but maybe he has developed good arguments in his book. A lot of small historical societies are looking for articles to print, so he can perhaps find one to publish a sum up of his important researches, but certainly not a 400 pages book. I think he is the kind of person able to self-publish his prose.

You are not receiving Millions from a nice teenage girl and girl herself too ? Then why waste an email to make the W laugh? Leave it and wait for good romantic email from a girl or at least a Lawyer who is authorised to hand you millions

I agree with @allknowing. This is too complicated. I need more time to think about it.

Take all the time you need. I am no more in a hurry, I have responded. But I am interested by the responses, they might be useful when another Mr. W will knock at my door.
