Do you get leg cramps?

I get them at different times, and they always happen when I am in a deep sleep. They wake me up big time, and that is so frustrating. I usually only get them in one leg, but I have got them a few times in both legs at the same time. They hurt so bad, that I just want to cry. I can't stand up and walk around as it hurst so bad, so I sit on the edge of the bed and rub them for a bit to see if I can get the pain to subside. I wish I didn't get them at all, and thank goodness, I don't get them every night. If I got them every night, I think I would go crazy. I think I might get them because I am older, but not really sure. All I know is, that my muscles tighten so tight that it feels like they are going to break. If you have never had them, then conssider yourself very lucky, as you wouldn't want them either.

I have had the rosekiss, but they do not bother me lately. I am not sure what causes them, but it does seem that is the only thing you can do is to let them pass. They are very painful, sorry you suffer from them as well.

Painful isn't the word. They hurt so bad that they make want to go through the roof. I am so glad though, that I don't get them every niight, as that really would be bad.

@rosekiss Sounds like some nerve is being attacked there. I had that pain I know it is enough to kill a person. There was nothing I could do but wait it out.

Rosekiss, I used to get them a lot but not so much any more since I have started eating bananas. Try eating some bananas before you go to bed and see if that helps you.

My dad used to get them all the time. Then, a physical therapist he knew told him to start eating a banana or two a day, They stopped, Every once in a while he'll again get leg cramps, and he goes and buys bananas and drinks a lot of water, The bananas help the lack of potassium that can cause leg cramps. and dehydration causes them as well, so to be safe he'll drink a lot of water.

@sacmom Now, that I have been told to eat bananas, I am doing it. I know it will take awhile to work though probably, but if I can stop them by eating bananas, I am certainly going to do it. In fact I had one last night, and about to eat one tonight before retireing.

I do drink a lot of water, and I love bananas, so tonight I am going to eat a banana before I go to bed. I do thank everyone for ther suggestion about this, becasue I didn't know that eating bananans would keep them at bay so to speak.

I didn't know about that one either. I hope that the few remedies I have seen in this discussion, will help, as I am sure getting tired of getting them. The sad thing is, they come on just like that. It would be nice if I had a warning first.

I don't know if age has anything to do with these leg cramps. I'm almost 20 and I get them every now and then myself. I think they're called Charley Horses? Where you leg muscles tighten so bad that it makes you want to scream and cry, yeah, they're quite terrible. I'm sorry for everyone that experiences them. :( My mother used to get them a lot and she told me that hot water releases the pain. I tried it and it does help a lot. Maybe next time that you have them, sit on the edge of your tub and run some hot water over them. I hope that helps you. It really does help me.

Thank you for the advice, and I willd have to try that. Yes, they are called Charly Horses. I don't know why they are called that, but yep they hurt, and when my muscles start tightening, I know right awaqy what is happening. Now, sometimes I can stop them before they get to bad, but most of the time I am asleep and they wake me up, and Iwant to scream out in agony.

@rosekiss I've actually never had them while I was sleeping. That's strange. I've always had them when I stretch right before I get up in the morning. I'm sorry you have them while sleeping because there's nothing you can do to stop them. That's terrible.

@makahutch Yes it cerrtainly is. that is the only time I get them too. To me it is the worst time of all, as I try to get a good nights sleep and bam, I get leg cramps and that does it for my sleeping, at least until I can get rid of the pain.

It happens to me sometimes when I'm sleeping too, but I think that getting enough exercise helps to prevent it.

I do walk, eventhough not everyday. I do try to walk as much as I can, even when I go shopping I walk and walk. I do walk the dogs too, which helps.

@rosekiss That's good. I tend not to get nearly as much exercise as I should but recently I've started using an exercise bicycle again after years of leaving it standing unused in my room.

I will just try to get up and walk around a bit, which does help ease the pain, but I do limp, at first, but then the cramps go away, and then I can walk normal again.

That is really great that you are so acitve. i do walk periodically, but not real active. I think I will do what others have suggested though, and eat bananas, as they say they help.

Leg cramps is one of my greatest cause of misery, and I have to use hot water bags to reduce it. I have noticed that it increases if I keep the fan on during night.

I don't get them all that much, but I did get one last night, and it really hurt. It didn't last long, and I had to wait until the pain subsided before I could go back to sleep. I finally did get back to sleep though, and never got anymore for the rest of the night.

That hapens to me too. I have tried to get up and walk, and I can't, as it hurts to much, and I end up limping. I am glad that pain doesn't last to long though, as I need to get up and walk.

I used to get that too while sleeping .. and it hurts like crazy. II was told by my friend a doctor to drink a lot of water during the day.. If I keep myself well hydrated I am fine.. the days when it gets hot and humid and i drink less water I get cramps.

@Marilynda1225 I do drink water after brushing my teeth, but not sure it is enough. I might have take my water bottle in the bedoroom with me and put it on the nightstand. I will do anything that I can to keep the leg cramps away.

I get them only once in a while. Except one day, years ago, it lasted the whole day, even went to the ER. They couldn't do anything, and it just went away on its own. But I thought I would go crazy for sure.

Oh my goodenss, all day? That would drive me insane, and even though it just lasts a few minutes for me, I just want to cry and go through the roof as it hurts so bad. I never know when I am going to get them until I can feel the muscles tightening up, and boy that will wake me up out of my sleep, and I sit on theedge of the bed, and just rub them to take away the pain. I have a hard time walking right after a cramp, and it is awful, as I have to wait for it to pass.

Oh boy can I relate...those cramps are horribly painful and seem to hit in the middle of the night. Thankfully I don't get them often
