Not quite sure why Hyde in Tameside / Cheshire has a large statue of a sea-lion outside the magnificent Town Hall building. It is quite striking. At least they haven't carved a beach-ball to balance on its nose.

Apparently, it commemorates the Hyde Seals Swimming and Water Polo Club's treble of World Water Polo Championships in 1904-06. It does appear to be crying out for someone to super-glue a beach ball to its nose!

sound effects of it yelling and clapping its fins would be good too. Thanks for the information on its origins.

Now I wonder if that is near any beach or sea?

@Inlemay No, Manchester is about 45 miles from the sea - as @owlwings says below, it commemorates a water polo victory from the dawn of the 20th century.
