Meet Melena

United States

My wife injured her neck in 1996 and had to have surgery, She was going be laid up for awhile. So I decided to get her a kitten to keep her company. I picked out a female, long haired she had multiple colors with white on her chest. I named her “Melena".She stayed with my wife most of the time. She would try nursing her ear it was so funny. I guess it did not feel good as she had her nails still, you know how kittens use their paws pushing in and out. We also had a male black cat named “Star”, which was our daughters at the time. Star was mean to Melena we would find patches of Melena’s fur here and there. Star was the younger one. He’d grab ahold of Melena’s back side as he still had nails until the age when you can have them pulled, which we did and that took the fun out of it for Star. We had a dust mop that Melena thought was a living creature. She was terrified of it. Well we also had 3 kids at that point their ages were 10, 11 and 13. Of course you know how kids can be with animals, they’d get that dust mop and hide on Melena in the cellar way and pop the dust mop out from around the corner and she would leap in the air, ha ha ha. One day stands out to me in particular. I am not sure which child it was but one of them grabbed that dust mop and chased poor Melena through the house. Our house was 3200 square feet, so she had plenty of room to run. Well, Star was in the living room sitting by the coffee table and in comes Melena lickity spit. Star must have thought Melena flipped out and was going to kill him. for all the bad that he had done to her. So Star not knowing what to do or where to run, he runs right into the corner and right up the wall. Guess Star must of thought his goose was cooked. Oh my we laughed so hard it made us cry, and we still laugh about it today some 16 years later. Pets can be such a joy in your life and create some lasting memories. So do you have any pet stories?

@kayshope There is no doubt in my mind that our pets are family members. When we still had our precious Star who was an all black cat we talked to him more than we talked to each other practically. He was so expressive and wonderful. We miss him terribly. I know I will see him when I go to heaven.

@Butchcass4 I hate to say this but i think sometimes vet take advantage of the fact pets are family members.. and charge an arm and a leg because they know we will pay it..

My sister spells her name the exact same way as your cat Melena. Isn't that something. I have never seen it any other time.

@Tampa_girl7 That is really neat. I loved my Melena she was so precious to me. I just know I will see her in heaven as God is love and He too loves animals, why wouldn't He, He created them. I have 3 cats in heaven waiting for Momma to come home and I have family and friends waiting for me. I am so grateful that I have that peace knowing if I were to have a heart attack right now I would be ushered into heaven, Hallelujah thank You Jesus for making that way to get to heaven by dying on the cross for all mankind. And thank You Lord for the 4 years I had to enjoy Melena.

As a youngster, my family had different cats at different times and some were sweet kitties whereas some had meaner personalities.
