I was collecting seeds, when a strong buzzing sound scared me!! I look up and it's a beautiful hummingbird! Stared at me for 5 seconds and I was like where's my phone!!!! On the porch of course Dang it!!! So now I'm on my porch hoping it will come by. Should I water the plants to attract it Knowing me i probably scared it away Anybody ever get that close to a Hummer?

I have only ever had one hummer at this house. My grandmother had them all the time and so did my folks. I need to figure out how to move my red honeysuckle to take it with me. They like that.

Yes, we used to have a hummingbird feeder right outside our window and when we would go out to replenish it a hummingbird would be right by us just waiting. They are so much fun to watch the way their hover and drink the water inside the feeder. I love watching them as they are also very pretty birds.

@Rosekitty Very up close and they really liked the feeder as we would put in different colored water for them. Just a little food coloring and they seemed to really love it.

Humming birds are so beautiful. I have a video of one on my phone but I don't know how to upload it here or if we can upload videos. I will have to look into that tomorrow. If I can figure it out I will post it here.

We have no hummingbirds in the nature in France, or those who escaped from a birdcage. I never saw one in my garden. I have had a nightingale : it was singing so well, that it awoke me several times.

I did once. I was sitting on my porch and we had morning glories by the steps. Something small kept buzzing around my face and I was swatting at it but it wouldn't go away. I thought it was a wasp at first. When I looked closer, it was a tiny baby hummingbird.

I have occasionally. At my southern California house, a hummingbird made a nest on the ficus tree on the front porch. We got to see it up close. I think those babies made it, but the next clutch, I think something got them, and then it didn't come back.

peacocks on top of our roof
Should it only be a hummer when I have scores of birds visiting our garden which has been designed with them in mind? I just picked this one not knowing which to choose

The only close that I have been with the duo visiting me is about a few inches (less than a feet) and that too when I am behind the glass panel of the window. They never stay on the sill if the see anyone approaching them

@Rosekitty let me clarify as I sense, you have started to interpret the duo to be humming birds. We do not find any humming birds here at my part of the world. The only one I saw was in the zoo and definitely some on Discovery and magazines. Yes the duo that visit me are now parents. 4 baby birds and the duo. I just love them.
