Bromance? Is It really a Word?

I was talking to some friends. They commented on two guy friends of ours. Mention they have a bromance. I started laughing and said they are not gay. Well, the laugh was on me. As bromance doesn't mean gay. It is two guy friends who aren't gay that spend alot of time doing things together.
Have you been a part of a bromance?

What's the feminine form of bromance anyway? Sismance?

You know, I really don't know. I always call the girl friends I spend alot of time with a sister.

Somehow the word makes me feel squishy inside. I know it's not being gay but I find it really cool when two guys are really good friends. I like the JD and Turk bromance (from Scrubs TV series). I think that's where I learned about bromance first.
