Macy's this year has closed 14 stores and they will be closing even more stores in early 2016, it could be as many as 40 stores. Just this year alone 13,000 employees have either been offered jobs in other stores or were offered a severence package. In the past five years they have closed 52 stores but have opened 12 new ones. They will also open some stores where they will sell discounted merchandise. They have also made a deal with Best Buy to sell consumer electronics in 10 of their stores. They are shifting more of their resources to online operations instead of in malls. Something else, Macy's has cut ties with Donald Trump now Why would they do that?? lol

Cutting ties with trump seems to be a thing many are doing...too arrogant for me so i can only presume he is very opinionated and not what they want to be around. Macy's will always be around one way or another..

Hi Marcy. It seems a lot of stores are really altering their companies. Sears also is supposed to be doing some stuff like that. Signs of the times. Yeah dump the Trump haha

I don't shop at that store as they have nothing that interest me. I used to along time ago but it has gone down hill.

I only have shopped there a few times as most items were out of my price range.

It is weird. And hasty, if you ask me. If they want to go online, it is fine but they need to expand rather than shrink so much, and so rapidly, unless they are already in bad shape. Wonder what is the secret of Walmart.

I hope they don't close the Macy's at my mall because I have the Plenti card! I can earn points using it there and then use it there!

You can see online in what cities the stores will be closing. Hope they don't close yours there.

I've heard of Macy's, but we don't have them in the UK. I suppose it's easier to run a business online these days.

And a lot less expensive, no building to rent or own. Just a skeleton staff I would suppose. Of course you would still need some customer service people also.

I never really shopped at Macy's. They replaced a local chain of stores when they moved into this area. I think they are just falling behind the times and it's hard to get hip for old stores. They are too expensive and cater more to traditional tastes than trendy fads.

Sounds like they are making some wise business decisions. I think it is probably cheaper to run a business online than in the malls. And, as far as them cutting ties with Donald Trump--Who wouldn't? I hope no one is dumb enough to vote for him.

I would imagine it would be less money to run an online business than in a mall. I am sure that he has his followers just like the others who want to run for President.

I think they cut ties with Trump because he is a moron. A loudmouth and a trouble maker. Macy's has been failing for many years now. They are way over priced as well. They do need to move into more of a 21st century store. It always seemed outdated to me. The days of those old style department stores are over.

I am so sorry to hear about all the jobs that will be lost. I pray the Lord will help all the employee's and their families. It's such a shame.

Well we tend to hear this type of news since 2008 when the economy went bust. We just need to find new opportunities and go from there.

Macy's has been around for so long but seems to have gone the route that a lot of stores have gone. I never really shopped at Macy's because I usually couldn't afford it but I did like to go in and browse.
