Have You Ever Had A Hula Hoop?

When I was younger, I had a hula hoop. Actually more than one if I recall correctly. It used to be so much fun. Dollar General has them and I look at them when I go out there. But I’m not as young as I used to be. The way it is now I’d probably sprain or strain my back or even throw out a hip. I’m very clumsy and accident prone. There have been times where I’ve stood up and strained my back. As much fun as a hula hoop sounds, I think I better not get one now.

I would suggest yoga, sounds like the stretching would help.

@Jessicalynnt One stretch is all it would take for a muscle to go out of place.

I remember playing with a hula hoop when I was a child also. I would love to own one today, but I don't think that one size would fit all in my case-they are for children.

@Juliaacv They have them in all different sizes. One of them is a metallic one, that's the one I keep looking at but I don't want to injure myself.

@Marcyaz I think I'll just stick to light exercises like dancing to a song on the radio.

Same here I would throw out something as I am not as agile as I was when I was a child.

@Marcyaz I think I'm stronger in some ways but no where near as agile as when young.

I still have mine, it was in the cellar of my Mom and I found it down there last year. I do not know if I want to try to use it again, well why not after all!

I had one when I was younger, but like you, trying it now, I would end up hurting myself. I am much to old to ever use a hula hoop, and besides, I don't think I could even get it to stay up now.

@Susan2015 I am 67, and I know if I tired, I would probably hurt myself, or I might end up on the floor, then I can't get up. I don't need that to happen, as it has before, and I had to crawl to the sofa to get up.

I remember them but not sure now if I ever had one of my own or not. I didn't know they still made them but I am with you as I would probably hurt my back or throw out my hip so I won't be buying one.

I can't remember if we had one, but we did use them during gym class. I was never any good at it then and have no desire to try one now. I'd probably hurt myself too.

@Susan2015 I have tried doing the hula hoop on Wii fit, I am better at it there than with a real hula hoop, but still not very good at it.

I have two. I cannot make them go. I can use them on my arms, possibly my neck and legs. I actually got them because I have instructions about weaving rugs on them.

I loved my hula hoop in the late 1950s and wasn't too bad at it I've done it in recent years with the kids at school when I was teaching, but can only keep the hoop going for short while now.

@wetnosedogs I was thinking of it and then thought better of it since my legs and feet aren't what they used to be either. I can pull a muscle by just moving on some days.

When I was young the hula hoop was popular and I loved acquiring the knack for hula hooping. But, as you say, I'm more prone to throw out my back or hip if I tried it now. It's safer to remember the memories these days LOL

I still have it. It dwells behind a sofa. I'm sure I couldn't swing it more than once before having to bend and pick it up.
