Feeling Fruity

I went to the grocery store yesterday with The Sister. I didn't need a lot of things, but I picked up a few things that struck my fancy. Today, I noticed a pattern in the items I chose. There were: Strawberry Shredded Mini-Wheats Blueberry Poptarts Cherry Vanilla Ice Cream Nuts and Raisins Trail Mix snack bars Obviously, I had a yen for fruit yesterday. Funny thing is, I didn't buy any real fruit at all, just fruit-flavored things. Oh, I looked at the bananas, but then thought how they would just increase the fruit fly population that I am so desperately trying to rid myself of. Well there's a little fruit in the trail mix snack bars. The thing is, I realized that once opened, the fruit flies might well be drawn to the strawberry cereal. It smells like strawberries. Oh, not real strawberries or anything - it smells like those chemically strawberry-flavored artificial strawberries. But hey, they're only fruit flies. And they're not that picky. So even with pretend fruit, I have to seal it up tightly. I should have just bought the bananas.

I can't stand fruit flies, I guess not too many people can. I guess you were in the mood for sugary stuff.

Maybe some artificial fruit flies will eat the artificial fruit and save you from those chemicals.

This makes me think of a song by Neil Diamond - "Shoo fly dont bother me, shoo fly dont bother me," in some medley with a few of his songs - love it

If you keep your fruits covered no flies will be there. You better go back and get some fruits for yourself now

Have you been able to get the fly situation under control? They can be so darn annoying. At one time we had a lot of gnats this summer and also had to be careful about fruits.

Is it one of those vinegar flies? I read they're pretty selective towards odor stimuli. I guess it must have fallen in love with the fruity smell of your snack bar.

I get those darned bugs something awful every year! Such a nuisance! I once heard cloves work really well.. they don't like the smell of it or something. Also if you put a cup of apple cider vinegar out, cover it with seran wrap, poke holes in the seran wrap, they'll be drawn to the vinegar but won't be able to get back out of the cup.
